Shin doens't means "Godlike"

i saw somewhere Shin Gouki means "God-Like Gouki", but this isn't true. The Shin as its written at the SNKP page means "True". The God katana is "Shen". If you saw DragonBall, you will notice this Shen katana at Kami-Sama's back

I'm wondering if you might've seen "God-Like" in someone's attempt to translate the "Shin" kanji used exclusively for CVS2's Shin Gouki. That kanji has an upper-lower radical structure -- the upper radical is the character "shin" meaning "god," while the lower radical is the character "jin" meaning "man." CAPCOM indicates (via furigana) that this kanji is pronounced "shin." As far as I know, this is a fictional kanji character of CAPCOM's own devising -- at least, I've never been able to find a kanji dictionary that included this kanji (and I don't think I've ever seen this character typed -- only as a graphic). The kanji character is supposed to be a Japanese modifier for Gouki that functions in a manner similar to the English modifier "god" for his counterpart, God Rugal (Ultimate Rugal for those of you without the Japanese version of the game).

ya, Shin can also mean core or the center but yes in goukis case its "true" or "realaized" shinjitsu no.... hm capcom loves plying with him. just like how they threw the fokelore forehead ten symbol and threw it on his back.....

As far as I know, this is a fictional kanji character of CAPCOM's own devising -- at least, I've never been able to find a kanji dictionary that included this kanji (and I don't think I've ever seen this character typed -- only as a graphic).

I think you're right. I just asked my wife, she says she's never seen it before, so then I checked the IME pad on my PC and I couldn't find it there either. The IME pad has listings of hundreds of kanji that are too complex to be typed on a normal word processor, so if it's not there, it more than likely doesn't exist.

I felt "Shin" was a word used for "Hard" or "Difficult" or 'Extreme" something to that effect. I.E.- Shin Akuma is a much harder, more difficult, and alltogether more extreme(to the MAX) version of Akuma.

And isn't Contra: Shattered Solider called Shin Contra in Japan? Indicating its more difficult than most (Hard Corps not withstandning) iterations within the series.

I obviously could be way off, and am prepared to accept a total rebuffing of my post via tsu or Chris.

Not a bad guess. You were close with 'extreme', cause it a sense, the 'true' form of Akuma is pretty hard to handle.

Actually, I never said that. dr. whO? said that he'd seen Shin Gouki translated somewhere as "God-Like Gouki," and I said that I thought this might have been "someone's attempt to translate the 'Shin' kanji used exclusively for CVS2's Shin Gouki."

While it is true that SVC's boss version of Gouki is called Shin Gouki (True Gouki), the boss version of Mr. Karate is not called Shin Mr. Karate or Shin Takuma. His designation is "Honki ni natta Mr. Karate" (roughly translated, "Mr. Karate, having become serious" or perhaps "Serious Mr. Karate").

Umm...let me clear the doubts..

the character used in Shin Gouki's name stood for "True", and is pronounced as "Zhen" in Chinese(and probably Japanese). The 'chinese' pronounciation for "Shin Gouki" is "Zhen Hao Gui", which translate to "True Great Demon/Ghost". Hence, the true translation for Shin Gouki's name in English will be "True Akuma".

You can pronounce it Shin, as in "why'd you kick me in the shin" if you want.
