There's 3 versions of SF3, and basically there's more characters each time.

The last SF3 is 3rd Strike...

But 2 or 3 versions of '3rd Strike' ? o_O
Never heard about that...

Yeah, there were three SF3 games. The first one called SF3: New Generation, the 2nd called SF3: 2nd Impact, the 3rd one called SF3: Third Strike. The big differences between them is that with each succesive game, they added new characters and improve the gameplay of it, with 3rd Strike being the most balanced, although some people say that 2nd Impact is the most balanced (I don't believe it though).

Your right 3rd strike is more balanced than 2nd impact.

Also over the three games some charaters change like Dudley, Sean, Ken and some others and they improved the perry system but some would disagree on that.

Anyone that thinks 2nd Impact is more balanced than 3s is fucking nuts. It has crazy long assed juggles and various other cheap shit tricks.

3rd strike is the best one. If you're looking for a home version be prepared to shell out 50+ clams

Man, I guess someone like me is missing out on these? The only Street Fighter games I've played include Street Fighter II, Super Street Fighter II Turbo and Street Fighter Alpha 1, 2 and 3. Is it worth it for someone like me to play any of the Street Fighter 3's? Thanks in advance.

It really depends on who you play with and how much you get into your fighting games. 3s is extremely deep. Even so it shouldn't be a problem for people that aren't super fighting game nuts to play it and have fun as long as the competition is on the same level. Being new and playing against someone that knows how to play can be less fun depending on your outlook on fighting games. A few of the guys that don't play with us anymore saw figured that since they were these ubernerd gamers that they should instantly be good enough at 3s to take on people that know what they're doing. Needless to say, they ended up whining and complaining the whole time, and eventually stopped playing against us totally. It pretty much ends up with the better player baiting the other guy over and over and just parrying and jacking them. Even then it's still fun to learn in my opinion, but I have a pretty strong desire to learn to play the game well. The artwork and animation is overall very excellent which is partially what enables the level of play present in 3s. The parry system really balances things out too. It pretty much allows you to play and be good with any character in the game with enough practice. Sure Ken, Ryu, Akuma, Chun Li, and Yun are all relatively top tier and easy to use, but by just learning to parry their attacks you can win out even with a character with low priority and such.

So even with all the complications of playing it can still be fun to play even with only one person. It gives you a good chance to learn, and the computer is incapable of baiting you like a real player can.

Well said. Best SF ever.... Yeah yeah yeah, I know a whole lot of you like SSF2 Turbo, but SF3 third strike is about as deep as a 2D fighter can get, has a great cast, great music, great graphics and animation. The total package.

I love Third Strike...I just wanna find the fucking CD-ROMless CPS3 version so I can enjoy it for all eternity without having to own a Dreamcast. No offense to the DC worshippers. I had my fill of that machine while I owned it...but I do indeed miss SF3TS.
Capcom needs to cough up an Alpha and SF3 collection for PS2 while they're at it.

CSP3 has/needs a cd-rom drive. maybe you were just saying you'd love to have one without the cdrom, but if you were saying csp3 doesn't (in it's original [and as far as i know, only] state) have a cd-rom you would be incorrect. CSP3 loads the CD onto the ram (or the cart... i'm not really sure, i assume the cart has other stuff and the ram is where the cd loads) at the CSP3 boot screen. i'm pretty sure it doesn't access during the game but it needs the cd & cd drive to boot up (every time).

sorry if you knew this or glad to clarify if you didn't,

P.S.

also Second Impact is prefered sometimes for a slight change of pace (mainly for those who only/mainly play TS and from time to time want to play another version of SF3). certain characters are more powerful and/or have moves that were taken out in TS (dudley, shawn, etc.)... that fact always bothers me about TS, but since it's so good in every other way i don't really complain about it (too much). also parrying is a little easier (the time window is larger i believe) and the rhythm is different. SI has some amazing BGs too. but this has all been discussed (use the search feature) many a times on this forum.

here's a note based on my personal experience though (important if you're thinking about buying stuff):
Double Impact (SF3-NG & SF3-SI:GA [second impact: giant attack] packaged together. JPN version is called W Impact.) is very hard to come by via retail stores (aka randomly finding it)... but i've happened upon it twice and bought it both those times.

unfortunately though both times my discs crapped out on me and quit playing the SI portion of the disc. i've had the same problem with Project Justice discs for dreamcast (i've returned 4 different copies of RS2:PJ because none of them worked)(the last PJ disc i went to buy i tested in the store and it didn't even work right of the bat. so it's not something i'm doing to them). i don't know what it is but i have a feeling it's some kind of heat issue because of the really small written portions of the discs being easy to warp... or something. my only pseudo-evidence to that is the fact that a friend borrowed my DI disc and it stopped working, which i in turn attributed to it sitting in the back of his mom's car for a day or two... but that's just a guess and it's probably not true seeing as my first DI disc was in my climate controlled house and it still broke/stopped working. weirdly though i could still play SFIII-NG on both discs.

so if you're interested in getting a copy of DI i suggest either buying a copy of WI (the import version) (even though it may have the same problem) (the packaging is cool enough to pay the extra bucks) or downloading it (i consider it my right as a fleeced customer to do so now [but i can't find a copy anywhere so i've kinda lost hope]).

good luck,
Davidb

I have not had any problems with my Project Justice or SF3. You probably just have the worst luck ever :D

My one and only problem with SF3 is I think some of the new characters lack charism...
Now if SSF2X or SFA3 had SF3 like sprites and animation, that'd kick ass...

By the way, isn't the music in SF3 2nd impact overall better than in 3rd strike ?

There is a CPS3 SF3 Third Strike ROM only board. No CD and it is not compatible with the other CPS3 games.

I've got SF3:WI but never really got SF3:3S. Looking around ebay they still fetch about 35-50 but has anybody seen and IMPORT SF3:3S? I'm really looking for one of those. Mainly just to go with my import SF3:WI but the more I learn about this game the more I want to give it a shot again.

that's super cool. i was ignorant of that fact. that's really neat. is it a japanese board?

and yeah... in regards to the dreamcast disc problem, i'm 95% sure that the disc problem wasn't my fault and i'm 100% sure it exists (the problem). again i tested 2 copies of Project Justice in the store that i never touched. so maybe funco and eb games have a stock room that is too hot or something, causing the discs to warp (altough no visible warping existed on the discs). i'd believe that .:oh_no: . there's another copy of street fighter: 2nd impact at a north-side indianapolis EB, but i'm not sure if i wanna get burned again (altough i just return them... so really it's just a waste of my time/hope if they don't work)

also... the cast of street fighter three: third strike is in my opinion the best cast of any fighter (or at least any capcom fighter) ever. it takes a while to get into a few of them (gameplay or otherwise) but once you do they are awesomely fun to play as and interesting.

out,
Davidb

I really don't see the problem of owning a Dreamcast for some of your favorite 2D fighting games. It's cheap as dog poo, and it's technically the smallest (easiest to pack) console out there. Yes, easier to pack than the GC (given most places to put stuff cater to things that have as little vertical height as possible).

It has nothing to do with DC worship. It perfectly has to do with practicality and economics. Is it some major sin to have a Dreamcast somewhere in your home? If it is, I'd like to know what this secret is. Heck, you could waste 4+ hours of your life on 2 movies you regretted going to the movie theater for, for the same price. (Bet some HOTD movie goers said, "Man, I could've bought a DC played 3rd strike instead of this!")

www.shoryuken.com Character specific forums. Pretty much the largest collection of good 3s players around. Here's a few other links to some threads that might be of some help depending on what exactly you're looking for.

http://www.bustkaratedojo.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=78

Don't forget www.karathrow.com

They're down at the moment, but when they get back up Streak said he was going to upload a bunch of new Tourney and casual matches.

But yeah, the 3s Board at Shoryuken is probably a persons best bet for general strategies and character tips. For popular characters you will find tons of pages on combos, play-styles, techniques, etc...

Many of those folk really know their stuff.
