Been selling alot of my games off.... Mostly due to space concerns, My apartment is 700 Sq ft, and I have a storage unit, and thousands and thousands of movies and games. And lots of other art supplies and books. My apartment is just too crampted.

MAN... PSP and Xbox DID NOT hold their value at all... they're garbage basically.

I'm going to sell a bunch of it. And the rest I might just do I big box of madness for $20 or something here on the forum.

The valuable ones I will send to ebay. (I have a Sealed Code Veronica GC that's pretty decent and a few other gems)

I'm going to focus entirely on Fighters and Shooters, and Eventually rebuild my Neo Geo Collection in MVS form.

Dreamcast also not surprisingly is worthless too. I'm seeing $.75 Shenmue's.... That's fucking heartbreaking.
But those I will hangon to. I can't imagine not having shenmue.

Also selling back books is a crock too. They want to give me 3$ for 89$ books on eBay. I probably will go to City Lights or some cool bookstore and see if I can get some moola. It'd be much easier doing it in person rather than Online.

I think I'll also go to Amoeba and sell all my Records...

Mostly just to get rid of everything. I have a vision of A flatscreen TV, and a HTPC/Gaming PC. No discs, no cable boxes, nosystems.

No books. Just an iPad. One Notebook. One PC OSX/Linux/Windows 7 Desktop for gaming and video editing. And a 20 terrabyte RAID hard drive array.

Any tips? I'm sure alo of you are going through, have gone through similar things.

I would keep it all. But I Just don't have anywhere to put it... And I might have to get an even SMALLER apartment... ughhh

Fuck that man, make your video games into a bed and put a sheet over it. Nothing except death itself should prevent a man from keeping his game collection.

I agree. My King of fighters, my MGS, My Dreamcast Games, My Saturn Collection, My Shooters collections, My Final Fantasy games, the good ones I'll hold onto forever.

But games like Mister Mosquito, dot hack, Fatal Frame, wakeboarding unleashed etc.... are games I do not need, and will likely never play again.

I went/stil going through a similar phase, and have parted w/ a ton of my stuff.

Right now, the only stuff i have in my apartment is my neo geo aes, j360, jps2, and a wii. Really all i play anymore is the j360 and neo - like you, i am basically playing just fighters and shmups nowadays

Everything is else is tucked away at my folks house and i need to sell alot of it off still. part of the reason is space, my apt is 950 sq ft - but I am married so its not a ton of space for 2 people. but the other reason is that I just hate clutter. my setup now is so nice and clean, i love it. i still love the old retro systems and stuff, but dont want an nes, snes and a ton of catridges etc etc ruining the decor :)

Did the same thing when I moved into a 500 square foot studio apartment years ago. I actually owned my MVS at the time and just kept it at a friends house for the duration. It was pretty liberating getting rid of all that shit. Once you do, you realize how little you needed the stuff.

I have more space now, so I've slowly accumulated more crap over the past few years. But my games are confined to one shelf and my systems are stashed in my closet. I pretty much only keep cream of the crop shmups and stuff I play currently online with the occasional exception for a weird game here or there. Everything else I play is liquid and gets sold or traded once I'm done with it.

Good luck with getting rid of everything. It's hard parting with some stuff, but you'll be fine with it after it's all said and done.

I've got a bunch of stuff to get rid of, and you're right, most of it holds little to no value anymore.

you know when i moved to ireland i packed up my games and left em at my parent's house. had boxes of stuff, they put it in the closet of my old room, and there they sat. i went back there in january of this year my sister had come by, taken what she could carry, and sold it off like some sort of drug addict she stole my stuff, sold it, and now when i do go back to texas there's nothing to play. thing is she's not a druggie, or anything like that. she's an overweight 16 year old high schooler who is a total bitch. not much i can do about it now, but once my ma found out she got in a hell of a lot of trouble. even so though there's nothing can be done about it now. that younger sister of mine is a real piece of shit.

sorry to hear that. you bring up a good point too - w/ a lot of this retro stuff, once it's gone it's a pain to get it back...

I dont think I'd care too much if my bro sold off alot of my stuff that I left at my folks house, but if he did I'd certainly want the cash and wouldn't let him pocket it!

yeah by the time i'd gotten back home she'd spent the money, and gotten away with it because my parents didn't pay any attention to things until i came home and noticed stuff was missing. really a shameful act on her part.

Only physical media i own is xbox 360 games. But i have ps3s and a wii, both use external hdds. All movies are streamed throughout the house from a raid array. All consoles are emulated in my Blast City. I reached the clutter boiling point a few years ago. Sold about 1500 games plus almost 20 systems. I'm mostly roms now and couldn't be happier.

I finally started doing something similar. I've held off selling everything much longer than i thought. Every year i would get close.

The main thing now is I see how worthless most this stuff is, and i just put in a box. I've been trying to sell junk off on ebay, but it's just becoming too much trouble. 25% of the people never pay, 25% of the people complain about stuff mentioned in the description. If it sells for less than $10 on ebay, i am either throwing it away or giving it away. I've already chucked a dozen genesis controllers and systems.

I'm not completely out of the scene tho. I'm just focusing on some key items rather than 1 of everything.

maybe consider what you use and what you haven't touched in over a year..if its been a year and it doesn't fit neatly on a bookshelf, ditch it!

Whatever you decide, commit and don't look back. You'll probably be happy you did.

owning neo-geo games is unnecessary. They can be played on the emulator.

If you're not in a hurry, put your stuff on Amazon instead. The prices for comics, DVDs, and last gen common stuff are in the dumpster, but every little bit adds up. Or just pop it on the forums and give people some good deals.

I sold 99% of my comics and collectibles over 5+ years and haven't looked back.

You'll forget about 90% of the stuff you sale and never think about it again. I've sold off about half my gaming collection over the last year or so and don't even notice.

Lack of space is also why I left the Bay Area. Paying $1,500 for a giant closet just got old quick. For what I paid in rent over 3 years I literally could have bought a 3br house in many other major cities.

Some good advice here!

For most of the non rare stuff I've been sending off big boxes to Amazon's trade in program. usually for DVD's its about $.025 to $2.00. I'm okay with that because it's no hassle. I might try the selling option for a couple things though.

I've gotten rid of about 700 Games and movies so far. And will get rid of another 1,000 I think. I'm just going to keep the really good stuff.

the rest I'll try and put some goodies here on the forum for nothing basically just shipping. (You'll have to take a bunch off my hands at once though) and some, like Madden.... I will just put in the recycle bin.

owning a fork is unnecessary, you have hands.

Well, I'm the antithesis here to everyone.
I had my stuff in storage for over 5 years.
When I moved to my house and unpacked..
It was like christmas X a billion.

I recently brought out my DC/Saturn Collection (theyre staying) and thats exactly how I felt. It was an embarassment of riches.
I wouldn't get that feeling with a box of PSP, Xbox, most PS2, or Game Boy Advance games etc...

This is why over the years I only bought games I know I want to own. Sure, I bought games not knowing what I was getting myself into, but I would either sell them soon after or keep the ones I like. I store most my other game stuff at my parents house. These are the ones I like to give it a go, once in a while. Some good examples of this is Xbox and N64 stuff. I will never part with my NES/16-bit/32-bit and some PS2 stuff.

If you are worried about your stuff getting sold off by siblings, just label the box your name and photos or other sentimental type stuff. Then put a note in the box on top saying Do Not Sell with a warning message of choice. That way there are two fail-safes so to speak.
