I love it and only get pissed because out of getting called 4 times I've only made it onto a jury once.

I can warn you though, if you're the lone "not guilty" in a murder trial and you stick by your not guilty belief, the police can and will question you afterwards. I guess seeing if you were paid off or something.

I just went in a few months ago for the first time. I kept throwing out the forum till I got the summons and went in. I checked in, filled out all the paperwork and sat down and waited. They ended up playing a video from the 80's on how the justice system works with Ed Bradley from 60 Minutes, so it was way out of date. After that they put CNN on and started calling names. I sat there for over an hour while they called names and just sat back and played Angry Birds on my iPod. Another 20 minutes went by so me and a few other people were sitting in the room for almost two hours when finally the one woman gets on the PA system saying "We're sorry, there seems to be no more cases today, so everybody please line up and sign out. You've all finished your jury duty summons..." This one lady behind me was PISSED but I didn't care because I just got something to eat and took the train home. What a waste. Five bucks next time I get called it's going to be something crazy where I'll have to be put in a hotel and won't be able to talk to anybody.

whenever the defendant walks in you should say "GEEEEEESSSSEE".

I've been called up a few times, never selected. I usually make it clear in the questionaires that I don't want to, or my being part of a jury will cause hardship on my work (or school when I was in college).

I know, I've never gotten actual jury duty.
I just would go there and read a book.
I brought a gba one time and played a lot of one of the castlevanias.
I got close one time,
but I think they were looking for people that were married
since it was a civil case involving married folks.
I would never want to get a criminal trial though.
Those take close to forever.

i've been called 3 times. always the same, go in, sit down, wait. get asked "if there's anyone here, who can't attend other than the reasons listed on the card please stand." i stand up, the judge looks at everyone standing. does a count of them. and tells us he doesn't want to hear our excuses, we can leave. and that's the whole story. i get my 6 bucks for showing up, and stop at whataburger on the way home.

don't let my location fool you, i grew up in texas and that's where i'd been called for jury duty. i live in ireland now but not being a full citizen i don't think i can be called. but back in texas they'd pay you $6 a day to serve, and even if you didn't get selected you'd still get $6 for showing up.

I got pretty close to being a juror once, I got to that phase where they question the potential jurors about whatever and they kicked me right out.

I was on jury duty for a federal case just a bit over a year ago for over a month! I, personally, loved it. My company paid me to be there, and it was hot as hell outside. So, I just got to sit down for 40 hours a week listening to this long boring case instead of sweating by balls off outside. I thought it was awesome.

For the first few days, I took very serious notes, and for the last three weeks, I just drew crazy ass pictures of the defendant. Easy money, and would gladly do it again.

I think they need to update the jury pay. That payout law was wrote in the 1800's when 6 dollars was very respectabe sum of money.

I've been called a few times, and served as an alternate during a short trial once. I don't mind it, as it gets me away from work and my work will keep paying me for two weeks anyway. It is pretty nerve racking though, my case was a simple robbery, and although it was clear that the defendant beat this poor guy up, it wasn't really clear that he was robbed. It's pretty stressful thinking that the next few years of this guys life is in your hands, but the other jurors found him not guilty since the robbery wasn't proven and he wasn't charged with assault.

I probably couldn't handle being the juror on a capital murder trial, unless it was blatantly obvious that the defendant did it.

I ended up waltzing in about 9:30ish and was dismissed at around 11:30 since it was decided that a lot of potential jurors weren't needed. Really ought to have done some of the Terry Bogard ideas though, haha. If I remember correctly, jury pay is $25 per day, so it's free money anyhows, and I had jack shit to do this morning. No lose.

It was mostly DUI trials being dealt with since this IS South Carolina and we're kinda...known for that.
