There are reasons why I'll gladly pick up DOA4, but Master Chief isn't one of them. I'm kind of disappointed. Why not Cortana? She could've worked much better into the DOA storyline, IMO. That is, for being a Halo character and all. The inclusion is nothing more than a stunt like Soul Calibur. Will people really care about the "licensed" character, over time? At least with Soul Calibur, it's a simple storyline to add characters to. A simple quest for some item of power could work in just about anybody. Not that story matters too much, for these games, but it is the tiny bit of glue that often permeates character selection.
And the stem of typical DOA comments from people who know a whole lot less about the games, than I do, will obviously permeate from yet another DOA title. I just learn to ignore the comments because the truth that I found is not the one they think they found. At least mine, through extensive play, has been proven, stamped, and sealed.

Well, now that you mention it. I guess we can't call it official until we hear from the horses, mouth. A lot of the original speculation was that it wouldn't be Master Chief, at all. I'd wait until more sites put such information up.

I'd buy this game regardless.
DOA is such mindless fun.
Sure the fighting system is incredibly simple, but it's a fun game to play with others for the heck of it since anyone can pick it up and play.
Not the case with VF4.

I mean, Christ, they could've picked someone a bit better than Master Chief for a fake like Alan Greenspan or even Irene from Ninja Gaiden.
