Hey guys, I recently purchased this neat SSV (not special) and voilá, it throws out a bank error, crc check on all banks in Unibios is NG and the jukebox throws out garbled sound ...

Any ideas?
Thanks for dropping in.
Edit: I also tried different boards and also stock bios.

A bank error is the message some games give if after changing the CPU bank register the expected bank is not in the 0x200000 to 0x2FFFFF region. The most likley cause is dirty cart contacts. Its also possible the cart is faulty or a problem with the MVS/AES.

Yeah, yeah, I did find that too, before I posted. The cart is clean as a whistle and my MVS runs sweet, plus I doublechecked on two other MVS.

So, I cleaned it properly (nevr dull, isopropyl, wiped clean). And still Bank Error. Could it be, that the P ROMs gone bad (those are Eproms on mine, see Supergooses sale thread for pcb pics).

Since you get bad checksums it's either bad connection, faulty PROMs, or bad decryption ASIC. Would start by inspecting, then remove PROMs and dump / compare to known working dumps.

Thanks, homes. Yeah, I will send it to my friend Kjell, to desolder and rewrite or exchange the P-ROMs.

How exactly did you clean the cart contacts?
I was the seller. I cleaned it with rubbing alcohol and the cart worked in my own cab. There's another buyer bitching about the same problem. He claims that the game only works after he cleared the memory upon startup.
I just testet the remaining 12 SSV carts that I have and all of them work just fine. MV-4F with Uni-Bios 3.0 set to Europe Arcade.

Can you run a work ram test on your 2 slot? Just remove any carts and flip all the harddips on and it should say work ran test on the screen. Leave it for 5 minutes and if it doesn't have any errors then your wram and bram should still be good.

Yeah, did that on all of my machines (2-Slot, 4-Slot, 6-Slot) today. Backup RAM Clearing plus Work RAM test for 15 minutes each. Still "Bank Error" in every device I put the cartridge in.

The 6-slot came out the dishwasher like 14 days ago and runs every game I throw at it (which I call a sensation). My 2-slot was cleaned 2 months ago and is stored with cartridges in it and gets constant play (3 games arrived the last few days, all work but ssv, plus it plays your kof 2003 nicely). Well, the 4-slot ... let's not count that in as a reference ...

I was the seller.

:keke: Sorry, couldn't resist.

But that is weird/frustrating you've had 2 people with the same issue but they worked fine for you

I've had a couple of games that absolutely refused to work on one board yet worked perfectly on another. Just wondering if some errors are mobo dependent.

I've had these problems before as well. Someone had a multicart that would produce no sound, tried it on a buddy's system and same problem but sent it to me and it works no problem on my MV1C but not on his MV1C.

That is really the first time I have seen shit like that happening on any of my boards. Crosshatch, graphic or sound glitches, yes, but, except for carts, where ROMs gone bad, nothing, that a cleaning of the games contacts didn't fix. Let's see, how the replacement game behaves (and of course the game I send back to supergoose). And yes, my arcade power supply is also running @5V and also a game (SVC Chaos) with the additional pcb on runs fine on all my boards. This is really awkward.

I set aside a cart that doesn't have any EPROMs in it and hope that this one will work.

What is the CRC that shows in the CRC check for rom region, I cannot see it in the picture at the top of the thread? I'm not sure it will help much but it would be good to know if that passes or not. Also does Ram bank 0 or 1 pass?

The check in the game is as follows, this is just one example of many through the game. If the expected value is not read from the bank before D7 counts bank to 0 then the bank error message will show.

Code:
059BE8 3E3C 0FFF MOVE.W #0xFFF,D7
059BEC 33FC 0006 002F FFF0 MOVE.W #0x6,0x2FFFF0
059BF4 0C79 0006 002F FFF0 CMPI.W #0x6,0x2FFFF0
059BFC 6700 001A BEQ *+0x1C [0x59C18]
059C00 51CF FFEA DBF D7,*-0x14 [0x59BEC]
059C04 33FC 0048 003C 0006 MOVE.W #0x48,0x3C0006
059C0C 1B7C 00FF 0834 MOVE.B #0xFF,(0x834,A5)

Hi Raz,

both sent their games back. The obnoxious buyer will get a refund and 420p will get another copy of the game.

I just checked one of my other SSV carts and there was no problem whatsoever.

Just out of curiosity, 420p, what revision 2 slot do you have? MV2, MV2B or MV2F?
