When I first played SF2 I was a Guile guy but later on I became a Ryu guy and now I'm playing SF2 championship edition and damn I never knew how much of a big difference Ryu is vs Ken, I remember everyone always saying he gots longer legs which I cant tell much of a difference but he does do the hurrican kick faster but for a shorter time while Ryu does it slower but for a longer time. Ken also has a uppercut that goes farther out than ryu. Its funny because I know I have it at the hardest setting and Ken has no mercy at all, I have to completely fight him on the ground toe to toe and he still is hard has hell.

(I never messed with the settings but the game is so hard that it goes to a sliver of life and still they are alive until you hit them one more time and that sliver of life is nothin I mean you cant see anything there so they should be down but aren't)

yea hes an asshole in hard, it looks like his moves are $100 predictable because he uppercuts like crazy then a second later he corners you and throws you and hurricane kicks you like crazy lol :D

Yea he is, he loves doing the double hit where he hits u with his elboy and they uppercuts you, I admit I do the same thing, lol be he does it always much better than I can, whats up with his throw too, why does ryu have a weak throw, he does a single roll while ken does a double roll, no wonder everyone used Ken in the arcades he seems to move quicker too but I think it might be just me. Not sure

i have no idea if the game was actually balanced or not, but to me every character had a ridiculous feature that was like WTF when playing with them or against them lol

Honda: karate chop of doom
ken: hes faster than ryu :smirk:
ryu: hes ryu
guile: his close fierce kick goes right over a sweep AND hits, that the best i can come up with :mr_t:
Blanka: damn his stupid jump kick :envy:
chun li: legs of doom :D
zangief: comp's tricky playing that somehow ALWAYS ends in a piledriver :crying:

well those were the original characters anyways (non champ).

i rock with ken on SFZ3. his HK has a reach of about half the screen and his forward roll is great for getting behind the bigger guys and giving them the dragon punch. :buttrock:

I like Ken more in the earlier street fighters, but after a while they toned him down and I liked Ryu more. Ryu's forward MK hop kick owns and puts the pressure on!

Outside of a select few SF games I almost always prefer Ryu's strength over speed style of Shoto.

Ken can be more fun to play, see SSF2T, but Ryu is usually my character of choice if I bother to play a Shoto. I hate Akuma.

Ryu's Hurrican Kick in CE makes all the difference in the world. That move alone can win matches. It has invincibility frames on both startup and end. It knocks down and does big damage.

In CE Ryu feels like a tank and Ken feels like a tin can. Ryu's fireballs come out much faster too.

Kens hurricane kick is almost useless because even if you hit your opponent with it they can counter you for free(unless you are lucky enough to catch them in an eggbeater).

Try using Ryu's hurricane kick to go through fireballs but use it in a 3s parry like fashion.

You are right about the hurrican kick, it catches the computer lot when they duck and you go past them and then they stand and get kicked by it. I will keep trying, I have always hated Ken becaused everyone used to use him at the arcade and thats why I choose Ryu, Ryu and Ken shouldnt have been made so similiar.

FACT: Ryu > Ken

Chun, Ken, and Yun are the great scrub trio.

You're limiting your comment to one single game. Overall none of them have dominated in every game they have been in.

I would say Ryu is overall the most competitive character in each respective SF game. Hell, I can't think of one particular SF game where Ryu is broke-as-fuck ala CvS2 Sagat or SFIII:TS Chun :spock:

For the guys who use Ryu how do you play offensive or defensive?

SNK FOREVER :buttrock:

Total rushdown offense. Defensive players are my favorites to play because I love watching them crumble to pieces.

Ryu is just a good all around fighter that can be used both as a rushdown machine or a bitch ass turtle.

I dont know, Ken or Zangief will kick your ass on the very hard setting if you stay back and wait for them, Ken more cuz when he gets going and gets you in the corner its over. But chun li you can just uppercut her all day and stay back always.

Depends on the game. Hyper Ryu is rush like a motherfucker. Champion Ryu is corner-trap game. SSF2T Ryu is a bit of a mixture for me, I've been known to turtle w/ him here. SFIII:TS Ryu - rush 'em down hit&run style.

Depends on the game.

Invicible frames on the Hurricane Kick. God, how I hated that crap! Hardly something Ryu needed, IMO.

Regardless how much Capcom goes out of their way to give Ryu, Ken and Akuma differences, they're all equal in the annoyance department as far as I'm concerned.

I was really like Ken in 3rd Strike, but just recently I've been rocking Ryu. I like to do an air double medium punch x2. I love that! Also his sidestep sidekick rocks. I like to pull off Ryu's second (II) super then once the enemy is in air, follow up with a medium sidestep sidekick the chest! It sends them flying across the screen, and looks badass doing it. :buttrock:

I never thought there was much between Ryu and Ken until 3rd Strike.

In 3S they are very different characters and Ken is miles better in my humble opinion. Ken's standard dragon punch is much harder to parry, he's got a greater variety of pokes, a great command combo and his supers are alot more versatile, namely II for anti-air and III for punishing missed ground attacks. Ryu just lacks the versatilty, his only saving grace is the mighty shin shoryuken...

In 3s ryu is alot easier to play to be effective.
Also deals mad amount of damage, with all 3 sa's if done propperly.
He really needs no hitconfirm or kara stuff to win.
