Right then, I can beat any other KOF boss pretty easy apart from this guy. All of them had a trick to exploit, but Rugal 2k2? I can't find it. How do you guys beat this overpowered piece of shit??! He just Genocide Cutters through everything frown

I actually think hes the second easiest boss to beat ,what i tend to do and i know its cheap is pull back and protect myself and when he runs towards me i just punch him in the stomach plus occasionally kick in the head and trip most of the time the time runs out and you have more life or you just win outright.

Well what i do is set my supers to max at the options menu then i just keep doing supers on him till he dies. Hey i tried to go the warrior way by trying to beet him with combo's but it wasn't working so i guess in order to beat him you have to be cheezy just like he is.

I'm still trying to come up with an effective
strategy. What I have learned, however,
is that you have to wait until he strikes with
Genocide Cutter, then attack (ideally, waiting
until he uses the high jumping Genocide Cutter
with the follow up, hitting him before he falls
to the ground). Other players have said that
it's possible to reflect his Kaiser Wave,
but I have yet to do so myself. Using a
character with a quick projectile to hit him
with after you block the Genocide Cutter
helps as well.

he's the easiest SNK boss i've ever faced...

at least, when i use K'.

If you use K', you can win. you just need to do constant fireballs (qcf + A/C, f + B), and he'll just keep getting hit by them.

either you'll K.O. him, or time will run out.

SOMETIMES, you can sneak in a supercombo if he's coming down from a gen. cutter, but... it's not always worth it.

If you use any other character... Good luck on that one! :)

Come to think of it, it is pretty easy to beat
him with K' (same for Kula, well, for me anyway :D ).

Use Orochi Yashiro.Keep doing that qcb+A/C and then do stand C->fwd+A->hcb,f+C or hcb(X2)+ C
Rugal falls for that qcb+A/C move a lot!
Try it out.I once got a perfect with that tactic.

I find 2k2 rugal the hardest boss but the ways to beat him are cheap and effectve. I never had a "real" fight with rugal. Normally I use Orochi Chris and use QCF+C if he does beat me enough then i use my HSDM and he gets hit HARD

Thanks for all your help guys, I'm gonna try out some of these tips against him tomorrow :) One thing I have realised though, is that there doesn't seem to be one set strategy that can be used by anyone to beat him, every character needs a different set of tactics to win. That explains why he seems so hard compared to the bosses of old!

But dude... on difficulty 8, constant K' fireballs are a GUARANTEED WIN.

just stay away from him, and kick those fucking fireballs. That's it.

My strategy when using Kula to fight Rugal:

-use Diamond Breath (qcf+A) often (mainly after
you block his Genocide Cutter, either the
low or high variation)
-if you plan to use Lay Spin or Crow Bites,
use Lay Spin (qcb+B) with the stand follow-up (f+B)
or Crow Bites (f, d, df+A), but only after you block
his high Genocide Cutter (the one with the
overhead kick follow-up) or his Gigantic Pressure
DM (though using either of those attacks instead
of Diamond Breath after blocking that DM
may pose more of a risk)
-use Counter Shell whenever he uses Reppuken
(you can try reflecting Kaiser Wave, but
the timing has to be just right)
-once you have 2 stocks saved up, enter MAX mode
and use Freeze Execution (HCB, HCB+AC),
ideally after you block his high Genocide Cutter
(he may dodge the first hit by Diana
if you use it when he's still on the ground,
but he'll be hit by the second part
of the attack almost every time)
-another attack to use after blocking his
high Genocide Cutter is Critical Ice (df+C)

NOTE: it's better to mainly use the A version
of Diamond Breath than the C version since
the C variation takes longer to use and
doesn't knock enemies down

I hope this helps. Good luck.

Rugal isn't too difficult to beat even though he has insane priority over most characters.

Here are a few tips that I use with the characters I play...

Kula: Korigama has pretty much stated it all.
Rugal tends to get stuck on doing his ground waves if you are on the opposite side of the screen. Just reflect it and he will eventually die or give up.

Ramon: Now this is quite humorous. Straight away jump back. If he does the ground waves do his hcf D. He will run right through the ground wave and throw Rugal. If Rugal jumps over you just throw him with hcf P.

Leona: This is a tactic I discovered the other day. The first thing I did was her V DM after which I went to the opposite side of the screen and proceeded to do jump and hcb P for the next 50 seconds or so. Rugal just keeps on going his kicks on the spot and once in a while attempt a throw dm without ever rushing. Something to do with detection of the projectile in relation of how close you are.

Kensou: Kensou has a great crouching D for whenever Rugals runs, beyond that I just tend to play defensively and do either his hcf A or DM straight after Rugal finishes his kicks.

Shermie: She can evade most of the ground waves with her dodge. The rest is a matter of standing combos.

O. Shermie: Doing her lightening balls is one of the quickest ways of finishing off Rugal. He never fails to run into them. If somehow he does she can counter his kicks with qcb C.

Ryo: This is definatly one of the cheapest ways of winning. Corner Rugal then dragon punch just as he is getting up for a possible perfect.

I was going to suggest Orochi Chris too. He makes things very easy. Still, I don't think 2k2 Rugal is one of the easiest bosses. Even in lv8, Rugal will NOT block O.Chris' qcf+punch flames. And this attack can't be reflected! Also, Rugal doesn't block O.Chris' HSDM!!!

he's pretty easy... all you have to do is time your run, roll past him(he'll end up doing his HCB+K move) after you can throw him. wash, rinse, repeat.

He's the hardest boss if you don't use cheap tricks. Every other boss is beatable by normal play but nearly every incarnate of Rugal seems to only loose to cheap tactics. I have the same issue with 98 rugal

first of get iori or kim in your team wait untillhe does genocide cutters and as soon as he hits the ground
with iori
crouch low kick 2 times un crouch hig kick once and then do the famous hcb+p twice then after the second hit do hcb+kick and he should do the grab and blow you up thing for a totall of 7 hits or activate his super instead of grabbing him. with hcb+kick if you have the power
do this over and over untill he dies or time runs out

with Kim

as he does genocided cutters and finishes do in air hcf+kick and the little five hit thingy.
this will catch him all the time if you time it right then as you power stocks build up wait untill he finishes he cutter and jump and do his super he cant block it and it will work all the time.
thats how I beat him good luck

Well i just played it on normal level and i was messing about with fighters and their colour schemes and i used kula against rugal and all i did was use the blow the ice move on him or whatever you like to call it which is the same control pad movement as terry's power wave and did it repeatedly and he never blocked it once and i beat him with ease, he is harder than some of the kof bosses but not as hard as he is in kof95.

The arcades here have the level set at 8 which is ok.
Every cpu character has their own flaw in gameplay.
Such as Choi at level 8 will always walk up to a standing opponent and let himself be thrown (or if one is playing as Yamazaki Choi will always jump at you if you hold hcb + A).

There's a few characters that can you can kind of 'cheap' Rugal to death.

K': Iron Trigger + shoot
Yuri: Powered up fireball
Athena: Jump, qcb + K

Some characters have slightly less effective moves that still generally work:

Vanessa: jumping CD
Kula: lay spin (not consistent though)
Iori: standard ground fireball
Takuma: standard fireball (occasionally)

There's more but that's all I can think of off the top of my head...

Kula = :qcf::A:

you can win easly do it and do it again while in the corner at right time when Rugal stand up:P
