Should have posted this here earlier as it ended earlier tonight, but if you haven't already heard, RETRO Magazine is happening.

"Three decades of your favorite video game journalists have been united to collaborate on a new print & digital gaming magazine RETRO."

I am excited to see how the first issue turns out. Yeah, there's Retro Gamer but those fuckers are expensive as all hell.

Anyone else here backed this project? I am wondering how long it lasts. 2 years, 3, 5, etc. Guess we'll find out what the longevity is on a "hodge podge" project such as this.

i'm not sure what else they can write about that hasn't been said already a billion times

actual interviews with people who worked on games twenty-thirty years ago would be tits, but i doubt it

edit: interviews with japanese developers. i don't care about the europeans and their commodore and spectrum or whatever.

There is already a kickstarter for that too, btw:

I was one of the first backers.

One of the several reasons I stopped buying Retro Gamer.

Although a reprint of their previously published SNES/MD material, if you don't have many of them (as I don't), then this is a sweet buy:

Also has a Genesis section, too. Each run about 100 pages I believe, in one big "bookazine" combination. It recently got released and I snatched it up, as I don't have but one Retro Gamer issue in my collection and so the reprint doesn't affect me (it might as well be a first print as far as I am concerned!)

It'd be nice if Retro focuses a lot on NES, Genesis, SNES and the arcade scene. Some PS1/Saturn/N64 focus is OK, too. But IMHO it should mainly be the 8 and 16 bit era oriented, for maximum appeal.

lol, is the writer is 12 years old?

Fucking hate seeing it writting like that, so stupid and wrong. Same shit when people call it "SNES" like its one word instead of saying "S N E S" Or just call it Super Nintendo.

One of the several reasons I stopped buying Retro Gamer.

Well what do expect when buying a european mag? We're already playing on home computers while you guys were stuck with your Atari 2600.
Home computers like the C64, Spectrum, Amstard etc. were more popular than consoles for a long time over here.

This magazine looks pretty promising, if the cost is lower than RG it'll be a good pickup.

The last big collection Retro Gamer I saw was for the Atari (yawn), so I'll look for the SNES guide. I would love to see the same guides for both the Famicom and Neo Geo. ;)

It could be worse. They could pronounce those abbreviations "knees" and "sneeze". XD

Yeah, I haven't called it Super NES since I was a lad, now I can't stand that term. It's either SNES (and not sness, I say S-N-E-S) or Super Nintendo.

Wow, I can't beleive they raised that much money. I like RG, but would like to check this out too. I've been seeing less and less video game mags at the book store of late; usually just see European mags.

MIKE! Didn't realize you were a member on here. Issue 1 & 2 were great and can't wait for the third.

Thanks again for getting me that first issue even though I was just passed that deadline to get it. ;)

Forgot about this. I'm subscribed now and I'm looking forward to the RPG issue, but wish I could have got the first issue.
