On my second playthrough and still having fun but I don't see myself ever unlocking all the special content. By the time I earn all those points, I think I'll be tapped out on the game. But it's been a good time so far.

I would, too. Given how Capcom has the formula down right now, I look forward to seeing what they can do with it. 0 and the original don't really fit in with what the series has become over the years and while that's fine for its time, reinventing them to play and feel more like the current model isn't the worst way to go.

The tonal shifts are amazing. I laughed my ass off at the John Woo motorcycle duel, thinking back to how Grace was stumbling around in the basement earlier.

I'm just about to complete RE9 for the second time from the start... and I just don't know.

Is it a bad game - no.

Is it a great game - no.

Sure, it has it moments, but it plays like a greatest hits package, and the total is not equal to the sum of its parts.

Personally I'd put this behind 7 & 8. In fact if I was ranking the whole series, this would not be near the top.

I think people cream over 4 for what it was doing at the time, not because it's any better a game, it's equally if not more ridiculous when it comes to story and set pieces. Plus people love their nostalgia and hate change

RE9 is absolutely silly, but has RE ever been anything else? Is anyone re-watching Wesker's Report and really getting upset about the legacy of the franchise?

That said, I can understand someone feeling the style of the RE-make series shouldn't have been blended with the first person series. I also wonder if these were always intended to be one game, and I can see how the structure can leave Zeno and Victor Gideon feeling less fully developed than they could have been.

The motorcycle sequence, though. I love it. It's like if The Silence of the Lambs or Se7en decided to resolve the plot with the knife fight from the "Beat It" music video.

I think the original Gamecube RE4 is a great game, within the context of its time. It still plays very well and graphically still holds up.

The Remake is essentially the same game with some tweaks and the graphics made over. It's a great game, but it's not the best in the series.

They should have gone to CV before doing 4 again, in my opinion. Again, CV is a great game within the context of its time, but it has dated, and probably only the most ardent of RE fans still play it. The scope of the original taken into the current gen could make it the best, if not one of the best in series.

RE9 relies too much on stylized gore, the main protagonists are not particularly memorable, the early sections with Grace focus too much on stealth and yet put in so many enemies you have to rely on a more confrontational strategy, which is hampered by a weak hand gun and a character who dies if the zombies so much as fart in her direction.

Now, sounds like I'm hating on it, and I'm not, but there are a number of elements that detract from this being a really great game, which is a shame, as it definitely had the potential to be better than it already is.

They tried to combine the best bits of 7, 8 & 4 and still managed to produce a game that is a lesser title in my opinion.

Just finished the story. Wanted to pace myself so I could finish grading papers for work and maybe complete the first run as Spring Break started (Objective failed. I still need to grade.) Was able to buy the Raccoon Roundup map for the city and load saves to finish that side-quest quickly. Spent the rest of the first run points on the unbreakable knife, mortal edge, and hacked bracelet. Don't remember if there was anything else but that stuff seemed to make the most sense.

Edit: RPD boss was a pushover. You gonna telegraph your strikes that hard? Bitch, I play Sekiro.

Working on The Final Puzzle now. Requires multiple playthroughs with some very specific details in the sequence of events to complete it.

No, I am not trying to figure it out on my own. I am too exhausted to fuck with all that. That is a young person's game.

Spoiler Alert....

Do we think Hunk is really dead? I hope not.

I've been seeing some video analysis of it that suggests he's not dead. The biggest clue seems to be that if you go back to the save room and then return to where you left him, he's no longer there.

But honestly, even if he's dead and the game is just removing unnecessary graphic details, it doesn't really matter.

There's a lot of cope about how 'maybe HUNK LET LEON WIN'. Fagits.

I REALLY hope that if Hunk is still alive, the DLC focuses on him and is another 4th Survivor scenario where he gets back up, weirdly heals because he's also a 'Raccoon City survivor' and has to get out of the ARK before it falls apart. Maybe he even has to secure am Elpis sample and get out before the whole place collapses. I'd fuck with it. They could even argue that he is some weird mutant strain of the G-Virus and really has become 'the death that will not die'.

Hadn't noticed before seeing someone point it out today that Zeno's face markings were similar to the Raccoon City Syndrome and got worse when he used his powers.

(For that matter I hadn't noticed that it cleared up when he injected himself but didn't want to sound that oblivious. I had noticed his eyes stopped glowing so maybe that distracted me.)

Ew, I would hope not. I like the thought that Hunk is human, even if his allegiance is ambiguous. Be great to have him as one of the main characters in another chapter of the series.

So, with that, were Chris, Claire, Barry, Jill, and Rebecca all infected with RCS?

What about Billy from RE0?

Talk about opening a can of worms.

I don't know about Chris, Barry or Rebecca. Seems like they were all already long gone from the city when the shit started going down. They were at the Arkley mansion but I'm not sure if it was under the same viral conditions as Raccoon City. At some point, taking this all too seriously induces AIDs. Just trust that it all works out in the end and that's all that really matters.

More nerdy:

Depending on which ending is 'canon' for Resident Evil 3, though. Did Barry come back and rescue them in the chopper as the nuke was going off or not?

And how long must one remain in the affected area before it takes hold?

Also, Carlos can be added to the list of potential infected.

As for whether or not Hunk is infected or still a pure human, hate to break it to you but the only way he survives a hatchet to the throat from Leon is if he has some supervirus strain of the Raccoon City Syndrome. Here is the proof that he was infected:

I've said it before, but I always wanted the follow up to Resident Evil 2 to be a game where you play as Hunk and you have to steal Sherry away from the government but along the way, he finds his heart and helps her escape to a normal life far removed from all of this nonsense. The story has gone in decidedly different ways since then and that's no longer a really viable scenario but I think it would have been a great plot for a game.

Finished the game last Friday - really enjoyed my romp through it. Although, about half way through I realized I should have selected "Classic" difficulty as Normal was just too damn easy.

Agree with @Tarma - 7 and 8 were better. Grace's story was the star of the show (despite the unintentional Porky Pig vocal cameo), but I did enjoy Leon's campaign and felt it was the best "action" in an RE game. The pacing in Leon's portion wasn't as frantic as RE4 (OG or Remake). And his axe, while a small change from the combat knife in RE4, was implemented especially well and parrying was very satisfying.

I felt the game in both stories relied too much on "the big ugly thing is chasing me," but it did help that the big ugly things were genuinely scary and threatening. The underground lab sections were predictable, but also well designed so I didn't much mind the trope.

Best RE game? No, that goes to RE2 Remake for me. But Requiem was a great ride and I'll double back for a round 2 play through soon. I hardly ever 100% a game these days, but a good horror game will usually pull me back in for a second run. Unless it's the Dead Space Remake...I devoured the fuck out of that one.

Interesting comment - I went all in on "classic" from the get-go. My advice - don't bother making your own ink ribbons, you'll just waste resources.
