Just saw the trailer for Resi 9 and it looks fucking sick!

Anyone else a fan of "Modern" Resident Evil? I don't mean the 2-4 remakes (which are all very good, with 2 being my GOTY of 2019) - Rather, the soft reboot with RE7 and Ethan's story. RE8 is hands down one of my favorite games of the last five years with all the different types of horror, excellent upgrade system, and really addictive gameplay. I also loved the twist at the end of 8 involving Ethan - I suspected as much, but it still took me by surprise (no spoilers).

I'm sure we'll get more info for 9 soon, but looks like it might also lean into some psychological horror.

we'll probably see a remake of CV before 9 happens.

didn't care much for 7 and 8.

I loved 7, but still haven't played 8.

That one has been in my backlog for a while.

I definitely dig the hell out of the modern RE style so I think this one looks super interesting based off of the trailer alone.

They should cap game sequels at 4.
Generally I agree. I often think 3 is the magic number, actually. What gets me are yearly sequels - they can go to hell and I'm generally glad that era is over.

That said, if there's a significant enough reboot that holds the spirit of of the IP but provides new interactive hooks and mechanics (like RE7 or even the 2013 Tomb Raider series), I'm down for it. RE7 was a surprise - especially coming after RE5 and 6, which I hated.

Looking forward to this, but would still like to see RE:makes of CV and 5 - with the fucking stupid forced co-op play removed from the latter.

I played 5 for the first time last year and was surprised how much I liked it since I heard its reception was quite mixed. It is a very dumb game, which was fine for me and the gameplay was solid even if your AI partner is a bit of a goob.

I still have 6 in my queue as well, but that one I actually own (was like $5...)

If you like dumb fun then 6 will be right up your alley. It's so fucking stupid and cheesy. Far from perfect and annoying in places, but some of the levels and boss fights are really fun. Overall, RE6 gets way more hate than it deserves but it's definitely more an action game than a survival horror game.

Enjoy

I watched Boulder Punch's review of it so I think I'm fine with it being what it is.

In retrospect I'm also fine with it being so dumb since RE7 ended up going for almost pure Horror so the series overall has a nice balance to it.

Man, I couldn't even finish 7. Outstanding game but growing up in the deep south I have a deep-seated fear of being murdered by psycho hillpeople. :keke:

I got a little bit past the first boss fight with Jack and decided I was terrified enough.

The trailer for 9 didn't leave much of an impression on me but it's Resident Evil so of course, I'll be there for it.

2 Remake-bad but took a while for me to really realize it
3 Remake-bad but not as bad as everyone says it is
CV X-Underrated and ambitious, I respect it
4 Remake-Best version of that game
5-Lots of fun, hope we get a remake
6-Best Mercenaries mode ever made, campaigns are retarded and execution of the grand arc over four campaigns was needlessly confusing, too many set pieces, best part of the game was when Jake and Sherry had to escape from the lab
7-Good enough, have had no desire to return to it, 1st person doesn't belong in this series
8-Better than 7 but still have no desire to play it again

6 is hot garbage. I played maybe an hour of it on its release and have, literally, never played it since.

7 & 8 are really good; I played 8 repeatedly, and it's worth unlocking the behind the shoulder mode so you can play it like RE4.

100% agree.

Fun fact - I've never beat 4. I played through over half the game multiple times - Game Cube, PS3 HD Upgrade, Steam HD version, and the modern Remake - all getting to about the half way point then I just lose interest entirely. Every play I think, "Yeah, this is the time," then I drop off again.

I appreciate what the game did for its third-person control innovations, but I never did care for the wrapper around all those mechanics. 🤷‍♂️

7 was 😘👌 too
Actually terrifying in parts, that's why they toned down 8 a smidge

I don't really know which I'd rank higher out of 8 & 4, they're both really good.

The one thing I will call out with 4 is, that even on your first play through, if you're smart with your weapons upgrades you'll go into the final battle with a rocket launcher in your inventory... and then, boom! Game is completed. Probably the easiest end-game boss fight in the series.

6 is dumb fun in coop. The game really isn't as bad as most people would like you to believe, but alot of parts about it are really, really silly.

one of those games that really benefit from playing it in VR.

Uh, bro, you're supposed to post the 'racist' picture from RE5.

Man, the prospect of the Outbreak games with current technology is very promising, and kind of made for the modern streaming culture.

Have we ever had a favorite Resident Evil game poll?

I’d make one but there are too many fucking games in the damn series.

I love how the title states they played it, and then the proceeding 9 minute video contains 0 gameplay. Anyways, they said it feels like RE7, allows for either 1st person or 3rd person perspectives when playing so you can choose whichever you prefer.
