I'm going to pick up a PS3 in the next 2 weeks and I have no idea what games to get with it. I'm probably going to pick up Resistance: Fall of Man, Soul Calibur 4 and preorder Killzone 2 but outside that I have no idea what to get.

Also, are MK II and Tekken 5: DR on the PSN for download?

Uncharted: Drake's Fortune should be your first purchase.

If you like baseball, I highly suggest MLB 08 The Show.

Easily the best baseball game this year.

I would say unless you are going to be using a joystick, get most if not all your fighters on the PS3. I plan on getting SFIV on the PS3 as well.

If you like mindless, flashy fun, Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm is a pretty fun fighting game.

MGS4, of course.
Ninja Gaiden Sigma.
Prince of Persia (Gamestop's retailing it for $40 these days, I think. Fuck the haters. This game is great.)
Folklore is cheap and enjoyable, with a great aesthetic and nice music. Tons of nice DLC, too.
Silent Hill: Homecoming (again, fuck the haters. Scarier than SH2.)
Condemned 2: Bloodshot (cheap, looks great and fun)
Bionic Commando: Rearmed (PSN game, well worth the cash)
Bioshock
Devil May Cry 4

For all that is holy in the universe, do NOT play Metal Gear Solid 4 until you have played through the previous Metal Gear games.

I cannot stress this enough.

You will rob yourself of one of the greatest gaming experiences ever if you leap into MGS4 without having played previous games in the MGS series.

If you're getting the official PS3 Bluetooth headset, do what I did and spend the extra $10 to get the SOCOM Confrontation/BT Headset bundle. The game retails for $40 seperately, so you're saving $30, and you can probably get the $10 difference in trade-in credit at Gamestop if you think it sucks. I'll be checking it out tomorrow, I just got it in the mail today...

I completely agree. The story doesn't work otherwise.

Not only that, but there are WOW HOLY FCKING SHIT moments in the game that are lost if you havn't played the previous games in the series.

The problem is, how do you convince a non-believer aka MGS skeptics who have very little experience with Metal Gear, that playing through literally hundreds of hours of gameplay(and cutscenes!) is necessary before plunging into MGS4 on the PS3.

I was playing through the MSX version of Metal Gear again recently, and kept wondering how many people actually took advantage of these games on the Subsistence disc and played through them from start to finish. They are fucking awesome!

MGS4 is one of the greatest game experiences ever in video games. I have seen people on other message boards talk about all types of franchises like Sonic or Mario, etc etc and will say things like "why can't they just to this". MGS4 is basically the greatest fan service game ever conceived. There are moments in that game that will literally smack you in the face, leaving you screaming at the TV "Holy shit, I can't believe that just did this!!". Provided you of course have played through the other Metal Gear games! ;)

(P.S. - Please watch all of the cutscenes. Please. Drop your cellphone, stop checking your email, cease hitting the refresh button over and over again in the browser, or reading twitter or some syndicated blog. Calm the fuck down this one time, grow an attention span & some patience to watch the cut scenes in these games. It is part of the experience, and if there was ever one game franchise that should be allowed cut scenes of this length.... its Metal Gear.)

lol ps3.

Spend your money on a fucking load of bread instead. A 400 dollar loaf of bread. It's a better purchase. Trust me.
