I'm in the mood for some old shooters. Anyone have some suggestions for NES, SNES, or Genesis?

I'm in the mood for some old shooters. Anyone have some suggestions for NES, SNES, or Genesis?

US releases only here:

NES
Zanac
Section Z
Iron Tank

Genesis
MUSHA
Thunder Force II, III, IV (aka Lightening -sic- Force)
Gaiares
Arrowhead
Phelios
FireShark

SNES
Smash-TV
Space Megaforce
E.D.F.

I know there's more, but those are my big faves.
Import-wise you could go on for decades, especially on the MegaDrive.

Fuck, if you had included Turbo Duo you could play my favorite 16-bit shooter ever: LORDS OF THUNDER :buttrock:

The Sega CD version is trash though...gotta go with the original TD version. That's the only game I kept when I sold my Duo...I love the soundtrack too much. :emb:

I always thought Ranger X for the Genesis was really cool but hard as fuck.

Want a great shooter for the NES? Check out "Over Horizon". Such an under appreciated shooter.

The music in stage 2 makes me dance around while my ship eats bullets.

Stage 3 with the ice cubes rocks my world.

The fire breathing Pumas in stage 4 are epic.

Plus ship and weapon customization?

Honorable Mentions:

Abadox: Tough as nails "biological shooter".

Metalstorm: If you like robots and original innovative level design check this out. Not so much a shmup but you still shoot bullets and you will dig it anyway.

I could list a lot more, as well as shooters for other systems, but I'm way too lazy right now.

EDIT: What the heck. One more for you: M.U.S.H.A. for Genesis. AMAZING music and AMAZING art direction. A bit on the easy side but if that doesn't bother you you must pick this game up. You must.

My top NES pick would be: Legendary Wings

Others: Gun.Smoke, Burai Fighter, Iron Tank, Star Force, A.S.O., Thundercade

Thanks to the person above recommending Over Horizon. That's new to me. Great packaging and ship design.

My top SNES/Super Famicom pick would be: Spriggan Powered

FAMICOM - Recca

Amazing Famicom shooter programmed by Yagawa of Battle Garegga/Raizing fame (i.e. lots of bullets!) :buttrock:
