Neat.
I'd buy that cab but it was made for left handed people.
no idea how they didn't notice the text was mirrored.

When I first saw this, I thought they had modified the original game to have the newer features on the modern port but i guess not.

I have no idea what this "AES" thing everyone keeps talking about

lol I’m with you and am a “home system” holdout too, but unfortunately, I feel we lost the war when modern SNK also adopted the “AES” moniker and started using it in even official japanese material rather than the original “家庭用” (home use/home system). Real ones know the truth though :lolz:

Piko is handling this one.

What about "AES" being printed on the motherboards? It's a perfectly good initialism.

AES / AES Cartridge

Term first coined by Dion Dakis of NeoGeoFreak/NGF-USA in early 1999 to represent cartridges that were meant for consumer use (home cartridges). Stands for Advanced Entertainment System. The term originally described the system itself: the English language logo for the NeoGeo had “Advanced Entertainment System” stamped between the Neo and Geo -fulfilling the Japanese love for adding superlatives to their product descriptions. The term originally was not well approved by some people in the beginning because people were used to calling them "home cart." But as Dion kept pointing out, anything in the home could be called a home cart: (i.e. "MVS carts are home carts if they are in your home."). The term "AES" has now become a popular short hand for describing a home/consumer cartridge and is now 100% accepted, used, and understood by all. (i.e. “I traded my Neo CD system for his Metal Slug 3 AES.”). AES carts are not compatible with the arcade (MVS) system (except by conversion).

I have to admit I don't really care what people call it, but would like to point out that dion's logic here is stupid

Hey whats up HellioN! “AES” was certainly not without a use or application, for that that matter, it also prominently says “Advanced Entertainment System” on the console itself (this text is also prominent on the NGCD model 1 and 2 consoles as well)…and yet “AES” was not used as the official name for the system back then. Even the released games themselves featured NGH (Neo Geo Home) numbers, etc. and the system was always originally followed by the 家庭用 designation and not referred to as “AES” in their japanese marketing materials.

I don't know why you quote this. It seems to contradict itself. The term is convenient for people, plus SNK themselves have used it.

AES just stuck coz of NES and VCS. American thing, plain and simple.

Doesn't really matter, just sayin'.
I don't know why you keep saying it's an American thing.

Are you questioning the official NGF Glossary? ;)

Pre-2000s most gamers knew about Neo Geo and NGCD. There was no need to differentiate between the console and the arcade hardware unless you were an operator or an executive of the Church of Goobology.

It's because the "Entertainment System" or "Video Computer System" monikers and the corresponding three-letter abbreviations were mainly American inventions in the late 70s and early 80s (Atari - VCS (later on renamed to 2600 when the 5200 came out), Nintendo of America - NES) and SNK copied it for their homecart systems to cover that but originally never used "AES" for systems or games, it was either MVS or NGH or Neo-0 or Neo ROM, etc.

When I say SNK, I'm referring to the real SNK, 1978 - 2001. I don't give a flying fart on what the current lads and lasses call it.

No, it doesn't matter one bit in the grand scheme of things, I'm just kinda sorta anal about it for no other reason than being old and silly I guess.

Dion was the one who coined the term AES which is why some of us older people still refers to it as NGH.

Aes version might be cool to pick up but I foresee QC problems.
