is there any way at all to convert a psp ps1 game save to a file appropriate for a ps1 or ps2 gameshark/arp to then use with the original ps1 game?

backasswards i know.

also can i take a psp ps1 image and convert it back to a regular iso for to play on ps1?

Don't know about the save conversion question, but I think this is doable. I've never done it myself, but I think that the Popsloader program for PC can extract an ISO from an Eboot file, yes.

Well you can get a psp memory card image for the appropriate ps1 game by using the CWCheat plugin. Once you've done that you can use a program to convert that image into a .psx file which can be used with an Action Replay. You can also get a DexDrive format out of it if you want to.

Just take note that transferring a memory card image to and from the psp using CWCheat can be buggy at times.

kind of off topic, but I just figured out that you can set the UMD drive as the usb device, and simply drag and drop the disc ISO file right to your desktop. and here I was looking for a ripper program that was compatible with the slim :loco:

Yeah, if your psp is hacked you can change the hardware address usb points too. You can have it copy over your nand and other files if you point it in the right place.
