My initial thought when the psn went back up last week was that Sony would use the update in conjunction with law enforcement in a rope-a-dope trap.

Traps work best when the bait appears exposed.

From what I can tell of the original article, it seems that the people that tried to reset their password via website w/e-mail confirmation are the ones possibly vulnerable. The article doesn't clearly state if this affects people who changed their password directly on their PS3 (like me) after applying the update or not.

My cousin called and said his is working fine. He changed his password.

Wonder if PSN will have to be shut down, or if there is a patch they can include on a system update?

It's not a hack, it's an exploit, which has already been fixed.

Gamasutra article explains that people that renewed password via their PS3 or PSP don't have to worry about their login being compromised:

Even if Sony catches the culprit, the leaked info is already circulating. Who knows how many people have partial or full access to the leaked database by now. It's senseless to use any of that info as security check for password reset.


Waiting for Sony to implement a fingerprint scanning gizmo on their next controller. XD
