I'm looking to sell the following CPS2 boards to a guy at work and I need a hand pricing them.

-Dungeons & Dragons: Tower of Doom (A + B board, Blue)
-Marvel vs Capcom (A + B board, Grey)

Looked around eBay, but I know that it doesn't always reflect real street price. Both are in really good working condition, but I have no clue when the batteries were last changed. Bought them with my cab back in June and the guy didn't know when they were changed.

I would like an estimate of how much should I ask for. If the buyer changes his mind, I will offer them here for sale.

Thanks

Yeah,I've seen a lot of MvC boards from all regions show up on ebay and many gaming forums recently. The supply is definitely higher than the demand right now.
Now if only some of the rarer boards would start popping up more frequently....

I think these are both a bit high right now. DD: TOD is fairly common so I would say $100. MVC would be at the low end of that price range. MVC is extremely common and its grey so less desirable. $80 only because its has the A-board also. I have every color MVC except yellow and have never paid more than $50 for a B-board only.

TOD does not come up as much. He selling it with a A board so it certainly not $100 on the low end, at worse $100 for bare board unshipped. You never bought a MVC for more than $50, I never sold one for less than $100. You own at least 3 MVC boards, I sold at least 90 and still counting.

People fought tooth and nail with me not to make a price guide so not to sky rocket the market but now everyone coming along and low balling it.

I think "Whip's sub" should be changed to "CPS2 pricing guru" :D

Well the mob mentality here is well since the the VERSUS SERIES is down in cost mainly due to a high supply lets push the rest of the library down not due to a high supply mind you but more so to capitalize on people current financial situation and desperation.

Keep in mind I say again every cps2 collector started off with the versus series and this is why we are seeing so many up for sell. The average joe collector never got their hand on any of the prime stuff such as AVP, D&D, Armored warrior, etc. This is why you are not seeing a equal influx of those boards.

The tactic being used by the people low balling is the opposite of price gouging, get enough people together to say say a prime title has depreciated to nothing and soon we will literally be able to buy original green progears for $30 shipped over night.

Yes the current economic situation does have a effect on price but desperation is causing depreciation because you gotta do what you gotta do as this stuff is a luxury but just because you sell a real gold watch for $10 to buy your baby diapers does not mean that is the actual value of said watch. There's reasonable price drops to reflect the time and than there's just plain taking advantage of the buyers market by raping and plundering sellers.

I'm not the ultimate authority on the price here, I'm just offering the facts at which I have consistently sold stuff for based on numerous sales on individual titles reflecting current economic conditions

Yeah,I'll agree with that. And this stuff,or anything for that matter, will go through cycles of feast or famine. Right now it just seems to be a real bad famine.I'm sure in the near future when the economy picks up,(hopefully) these boards will again climb back up in price. But definitely a buyers market on a lot of these boards.

If you have the ability to hold on to boards and not sell them right now then you will probably have to take less. The financial situation of people has to affect the price guide. You can't say a game is worth $150 during good times and then say that's it, it doesn't change. The market affects price. Right now people arent overpaying for ANYTHING. I own businesses so I have to deal with it all the time.

The market will eventually bounce back and DD will go back up a bit. The versus games will go back up a bit. I don't see MVC going up a whole lot. There are SO many of them out there. Years ago I couldn't find one for myself but now they are all over the place.

I don't think the price of prime stuff will be affected that much. Progear will never be $30, etc. I don't put DD:TOD in that category. SOM I do. TOD pops up a lot. If you want a TOD you can find one and for cheap.

You may not like low-ballers but its part of negotiation as is gouging. The seller who accepts the low-ball offer is driving down prices more than the low-baller himself. A buyer who accepts the gouged price is simply uninformed. Money situations are bad now and that goes for the sellers also not just the buyers. There are a lot of low-ball offers being accepted. That has bearing on the market. We can't ignore those transactions.

I deal with a lot of CPS2 also but not nearly as much as you do, mainman. You know I love you, brother, but I'm just telling you guys how I've seen it from the east coast for the last two years.

No hostility here man, I just debating thats all, its just video games guy:)

Dude I noted numerous times in my post to the point of stressing it with a real world example that the economic climate does have a affect on price. The argument here is how boldly buyers are tactically depreciating the market that is not a fair deflation to reflect the economic climate. Your offering $100 probably shipped even for a TOD with a A board, come on man. Tod is not SOM but its not a low tier title. You yourself have put forth that you paid $50 for MVC, guess what now everyone who read that has been programmed to think thats what even a blue phoenixed board should cost shipped.

You can't say a game worth $150 in good times is now worth $60 in bad times based not on sudden high supply or a lack of demand in TOD case but more on potential buyers just wanting to capitalize on the situation, buy low keep or sell high. A reasonable offer would be I will sell it to you at the $100 mark for just the B board plus shipping for the TOD. Bottom line is who ever is buying such luxuries in this economy isn't hurting as much as the person selling,

TOD has not popped up that much, you still thinking of MVC. All sarcasm aside where are the thread and auction to reflect the flood of this title in equal proportion to the Versus series that have temporarily flooded the market.

You can't blame the seller for taking low offers, when you need money right now to keep a roof over your head you gotta get your priorities straight.

Wow, so many replies

I really didn't expect this much from a price check. I'll be sure to keep you posted on what happens with them. I might end up going in the middle or so of mainman's price estimate.

Already had an offer from a forum user and I'm wondering if it wouldn't be a better move for me to trade toward a jamma PCB boards.

Thanks alot :D

This thread has definitely been interesting. Maybe a trade would be in your best interest, especially if you aren't really hurting for money and potential buyers don't have much money to spend.

Definitely not as many TOD as the VS. series. No debate there. That's why MVC is less:) My price estimates are without shipping included and not phoenixed. But with the A-board included (especially in the case of grey or orange).

When it comes down to it, its really between genetik and whom ever he is selling too, we're just offering our 2 cent. With the current market I've been destroying more boards than selling them for the last 5 months or so because it more economical for me to part them out in bulk than sale at the depreciated levels.

I have to go with 100 for D&D TOD B board only, it's just fair. I can't recall ever seen TOD sell for more than that. With A board, well consider that a bonus 'cause now days whomever is buying CPS2 game already has an A board, but if you must you can 15 bucks and all shipped within the US for 125.

It'snot gonna sell for more than that, no matter how you look at it. I'm not arguing mainman's nor mitsu's opinion, teh thing is no matter what teh right value might be, no one is gonna pay high or even reasonable market value right now.

D&D1 battery powered blue with A board around $125-$155
MVC battery powered grey with A board around $80-$125

Hmm... a agree with Mitsurugi-w I think his assessment is spot on with this one.

Most of the time I agree with mainman but how can dd1 be worth anymore than 100 (i think thats top end to be honest)... and in the other thread you said rare black gigawing for 100 and gigawing blue for 120-130.

Not trying to start an argument just my 2c.

The black ones are rare but not desirable. They can't be easily phoenixed. In fact the only person I know that can do it is mainman. He did a MVC for me. A phoenixed black MVC would go for alot more than a phoenixed blue just because of the work and material involved. Also, changing the battery is extremely hard. They die instantly just like CPS3 carts when battery power is removed.

A bare blue unphoenixed board I'll do $100 unshipped but look closely at my words you quoteed, it comes with a A board. Now is the community so spoiled they expect a free us/jap mobo with every purchase, it doesn't matter what you think its worth as it still has value. I quoted $125 on the low end with the mobo

Now why would I quote a board I called rare in this case a black gigawing lower than a blue version of the same game. Once again I explained in that very same topic why, because to a vast majority of people its a liability which can not be phoenixed but I can do it. Its a time bomb to you but I'll take it off your hands, hell I'll give you a phoenixed green version as a even trade if you want. A blue board is not common so if you want a cheaper alternative go green because the increased price for the blue is a different collecting demographic which are not strictly gamers.

If someone can dictate the cost of a board and get it from one person or 100 people at their price all the power to them. But for the record unless I need to raise funds for a new kidney or some other misfortune they will never insult me with a low ball offer. I'll just keep scrapping the boards instead as I already have my primary collection and there obviously no more need for me to provide a service by selling this stuff if I am going to argue with price. It like when you want that brand new TV but you think the price is unfair and you want it AT YOUR PRICE, you can shop around and wait for that low price which may only show up when the planets are aligned and circuit city goes out of business again, this is all of course if this low price doesn't only exist in your head to begin with

See the funny thing is the vast majority of the people your seeing these deals from are very likely a little down on their luck and going out of the collecting business other wise you think they would just be giving their stuff away and these deals might not just be a permanent norm people. During better times these same people were pricing their stuff higher than my stuff and would still be so now if the shit didn't hit the fan.

Sneek you are a more extreme collector than me (supposively more kits). You of all people know there are gamers and collectors but in the end any item is only what a individual is willing to pay for it.

I keep forgetting guess what I found another SSF2 tournie battle in the pile and was wondering if you ever figured out how to link them so I do not have to do the guess work myself

Just giving my experience... d&d1 was hard to even give away and ive seen plenty under the 100 mark.

I keep forgetting guess what I found another SSF2 tournie battle in the pile and was wondering if you ever figured out how to link them so I do not have to do the guess work myself

Apparently, you need 4 and you use svideo cables to link them in a chain. I only got 2 but I'd love to test this... pity you don't see them very often.

yeah you have to have four. Then just use the S-video cables like sneek said. It won't boot until there are four communicating.

I'll just have to wait until I find two more....
