Power Rangers is poopy.

Super Sentai (broadly speaking) is great.

With that said, I'm always down for more Power Ranger games as I've had some fun times with a bunch of the games and it does have the potential to translate well into that medium.

I went through a period a while back with playing the older 16-bit/handheld games and still had a lot of fun with them and this one looks pretty damn solid to me even if I won't bite for a while until some deep digital discount hits.

Weren't we all in our mid to late 20s when Power Rangers hit?

I mean...yeah we all hold on to our fagit childhood fixations but this seems like it came after most of us were set on our goobdom. Maybe I'm wrong.
Yeah, I was too old when Power Rangers started. My little brother watched it a little. Same with Pokemon. I enjoyed the Sega CD FMV game though, and I might play this if the game turns out good.

I think the reason it doesn't compare to the stuff from the 80s, at least in my mind, is that it wasn't a home grown product conceived and developed in the USA, unless you consider that Saban used a lot of footage from Super Sentai but repurposed it for American audiences. The live action looks cheesy, even by 80s standards, and we all knew we were getting a distaff version of something that already existed.
I think little kids were blissfully unaware that the show was Frankenstiened together garbage. The slightly older viewers were probably aware but didn't care enough for it to effect their enjoyment.

I was around 12 when the show came out so I had outgrown all of that kiddy stuff for skating and music.

I do remember being kind of pissed that the toys were so good though. The decline in toy quality in the early 90's was pretty drastic compared to the mid 80's. So seeing high quality Japanese toys coming over that felt like a return to the toys I loved just a few years earlier was nice. I distinctly remember going to a friend's house and his little brother had a bunch of PR stuff and I was like man these toys are sick, too bad it's such a crappy show.

Too bad these new beat em ups all look the same, everyone just copies Shredder's Revenge. If you're going to make something "retro" at least add some unique style to it. Hopefully this plays well, that can make up for a lot.

Yep. Kids were unaware.

But in my 20s, I knew right away that Power Rangers was gay.

I imagine that if I'd been in my 20s in the 80s, I'd have thought the same thing about all of 'the toys that made us'.

Don't forget the yellow one (rip)

She wasn’t really my type.

But did she really die? I knew the green ranger died but didn’t know she did as well. Very sad.

I see a lot of praise for it, but nobody breaking down the actual meat and potatoes of the combat system. From what I see it looks to be extremely shallow and lacking in that area. All characters basically play the same and are just pallette swaps, no weapon pickups; looks to be even more shallow than Shredder's Revenge.

As a kid, I was aware that it was using footage from Japan. In fact, I remember they had a behind-the-scenes type thing after one of the episodes where they explained Zyuranger. They even pronounced it correctly as "Jew-ranger" so the 6 or 7 year old me made the logical connection that "Jew" = "power". I wanted to see the original Japanese show so bad but obviously had no way to do so in the early '90s. Glad it finally got released in 2015 or so.
