Unless they have some weird mod done to them yes.
Maybe he want to have both hooked up simultaneously.
Which is also dumb because well, PS2 can play both.

Nope.

You can use the same scart cable for a PS1/PS2, this is true, and this is what I used to do, pretty much all the time. Apparently the video out gubbins is different, so the PS1 cable needs a little "extra" in the connector to give the best picture.

Could be marketing bollocks, but given the source of the cables, I trust the info they're giving out.
