I considered buying a PS5 Pro to have the best console experience at the moment. I would've bought it and the disc drive, but I just decided not to spend the money for now.

It was a big expense, but I'm impressed with it after a few hours of play. I fired up a first-party Sony game that I've also recently played the PC port of. Granted, my gaming PC hasn't had an upgrade since 2021 and it was hardly top of the line back then, but the PS5 Pro version looks nicer (especially environmental effects) and runs a lil smoother. That said, I'm under the impression that the leap from PS5 to PS5 Pro is a lot smaller than the the PS4 to PS4 Pro so if you already have a PS5 then the Pro model might not be worth it.

I managed to miss the entire PS4 generation and only had a PS3 at the end of its' life because they were dirt cheap so it's nice to have a Playstation around again. The PS5 controller is absolutely insane and that's probably my favorite thing about it.

I'm just a tad disappointed that the console doesn't support Dolby Vision for 4k Blu Rays.

Digital Foundry was initially very impressed with the PS5 Pro upgrade to Final Fantasy VII Remake, but then later they realized it was a very specific case. Overall it sounds like the difference between the base PS5 and the Professional is quite minimal.

Yeah, if you already have a PS5 the pro isn't worth it.

It seems like the PS5 pro is much like the PS4 Pro was. If the game wasn't specifically programmed or patched to take advantage of the extra power it doesn't do much. But there are a couple of games where it makes a real difference. On PS4 God of War felt like a totally different game, but that's the only thing I played where it really mattered that much. On PS5 Pro Expedition 33 gets a nice upgrade on the pro but that's the only thing that has stuck out to me.

The PS4 Pro was a bigger step up than the PS5 Pro because that mid gen refresh was specifically targeting 4K TV's, as opposed to the 1080p standard that Xbox One and PS4 were primarily aimed at. This alone made the difference more noticeable. The Xbox One X was obviously a much better upgrade than the PS4 Pro, but the PS4 Pro still gave you checkerboard upscaling to 4K. I'm just not seeing a big enough graphic detail and render resolution difference in PS5 Pro to justify the upgrade.

If you get really serious about your PS5, I'd seriously consider getting a Dual Sense Edge controller. They aren't cheap but mine have enhanced my gaming experience on the console significantly. Not necessary at all, but I've owned them for a couple of years and no drift yet.

I see that there also these 'custom controller' companies that a lot of the COD and Battlefield players stand by. My roomie is a big fan of a lot of those guys on YT (expel, nickmercs, etc) so she got one of those deals with a custom Joker faceplate (she really likes the Joker for some reason, I'm not scared...). Works with both PC and PS5.

I was a little skeptical about these 'elite' controllers but after the Dual Sense Edge exceeded my expectations in terms of durability (WAY better than the standard controller packed in with the console), I ended up getting premium controllers for my Switch and PC (also works with Xbox, natch) as well, they've all been satisfying. I probably would have gone through 4 regular PS5 controllers in the time I've owned my first Dual Sense Edge. Even though the regular Sony controllers work just fine, the drift just comes out of nowhere and it's not even just a little slight-it's bad when it happens.

And I typically only buy first party if there's an option, as they seem to be the most reliable in my experience. Although those Mad Catz Street Fighter IV sticks are pretty incredible for casiual play, too.

Welcome to the cork sniffing controller elite club, I'm a proud member.

I am a little annoyed that Sony's fix for drifting on the Edge was to sell replaceable analog sticks instead of installing hall effect sticks, but it's better than most other controllers that just don't do anything but die. The only thing I'd caution is the more pimp the controller, the less reliable it becomes, generally speaking. Xbox Elites and Scuf are prime examples.

If only they made some type of "controller" that worked just fine and didn't cost extra. They could even pack it in so it's included with the system. Oh well. A man can dream.

You can pay someone on eBay like $30 to have hall sticks installed in your controller.

@kernow will appreciate this. I added the Saturn and PS1 versions of SSRPG my collection, so now I have all three versions, plus the soundtrack. If my video series ever gets to NGH-085 in 20 years, I'll be sitting pretty. Sorry @hitorkori I didn't get a repro of @Deuce's awesome translation.
