Macross DYRL 4k set worth importing if you're a fan and it does have english subtitles as well.

Recently picked up both of these, wanted to give a brief impression of how they compare. I tried looking up comparisons online, but couldn't find much, and it's hard to get a feel through a youtube video. In person, the difference felt much more visceral.

First, they both offer tate mode, and while my monitors can rotate and would probably make for a better experience that way, I didn't feel like messing with multiple cable slack to get them to do so. And since the RT4K has a build in ro-tate feature, I used that instead. For NeoXYX, you hold down the A button while powering up or while hitting the reset button on the console. For Project Neon, you can select tate mode through the menu.

What's similar about these games: both vertical shooters, colorful popping graphics, and whole lots of bullets. I tried playing on my 8bitdo Neo CD pad w/ NeoBT adapter, but it's harder to make quick moves this way in either game. Using the bean stick or the original stick was easier, but this is probably obvious to most shooter fans.

What's different: NeoXYX feels faster, but at the same time easier. They're both bullet saturated, but I think your hitbox on NeoXYX is smaller. I felt like it was a lot easier to collide with a bullet on Project Neon. This impression could be partly due to having more playtime in XYX, as well as some time in SuperXYX on PC, but I don't think that fully accounts for it. In NeoXYX, it just felt like I was given more passes with close calls.

As far as graphics, I prefer NeoXYX as there's more detail and feeling of depth, and I think I even prefer the higher feeling of speed. That said, they're both unique styles and I can appreciate each for what it is. I have no regrets on purchasing either, and am glad to have both. I recommend them, and while the NeoXYX carts can be pricey, there's also a Dreamcast version that can be found cheaper.

For neo xyx try holding A & D together at startup. It changes the controls back to an earlier build. Much better in my opinion

Haven't played Project Neon but it doesn't seem like it's as good.
I'm just waiting for the suckers market to declare itself on eBay, then I'm fucking my copy off.

It's not a bad game, but it's no Toaplan clone.

Got this baby in a trade with a buddy. Now I need to get it working again. He said that it is a golden axe but once upon a time it was a cotton . Should I revert it back to a cotton?

All I have is a crappy bootleg DVD and a digital download that I torrented a long time ago. I may have to get this. What a shame that this isn't available in the US officially yet. That Clash of the Bionoids aussie dub is pretty hysterical, though.

WHAT'S THAT? A MAN AND A WOMAN!

Yeah maybe. Those labels on the roms look original, so I would keep those chips at least.

For the longest time that's what i had to just a cheap bootleg of it on dvd. Before that the movie on vhs under it's original title with that hilariously bad english dub definitely comedy gold there. It's worth importing,i doubt it will ever have a u.s release not with harmony gold in the way.

Harmony Gold and Big West are working together now so there is potential. A lot of Macross is streaming on Hulu in the US, I think. But still no original series or DYRL. So there's always a chance it will get released. Someday.

Probably.

Maybe not.

I thought that recent deal big west made was for any macross show to be release here was after the original ? Dunno though i don't think much of how the series is currently just on hulu for the u.s.I rather have the option to buy it on bluray instead.
