Just picked up and installed a vice on my tool bench today. Tired of fussing around with clamps for small cutting jobs. Other than that PI2 cart a month back, this is my favorite purchase in a long time.

Nothing else says I'm a real handyman other than a wall of brand new neatly arranged tools.

I lag my vises into the wood.
I love restoring old vises.
I have like two really nice restored vises, and a bunch of fully functional ones I beat up.
Those harbor freight vises serve their purpose but don’t compare to the old vintage ones you can on Craigslist or marketplace.
The Chas Parker is a beast.

Can’t go wrong with a Parker, hydraulics, vises, saxophone …

Handyman? Please. I don't use my tools. I keep them displayed on the wall and never touch them. You know, the same way you fellas treat your video games.

My 6” crusher…
Home Depot clearance of 29.97$ almost 20 years ago. It was missing the swivel locking nut, replacement for just that was ~80$, no thank you I’ve got a few nuts and washers at home and I don’t need to swivel it when it’s on a moebile cart…

Tbh, I have to make some Savanah Cup cars with my daughters soon (thats the girl scout equivalent of the Pinewood Derby), and I recall what a pain it was last year trying to clamp down and cut those little blocks. So I thought, hey... vice. Haha. That was the catalyst.

I need to replace some boards in the deck as well, waiting for the snow to melt. Figure it'll come in handy for that too. If I find that I'm using it for more shit in the year to come, I'll probably upgrade to something a bit more heavy duty. But for now, I'm just happy to have something at all. It'll certainly make life easier.

I think you have clamps and vise mixed up. I’ve build numerous decks and can’t say I’ve ever used a vise on any of them…

I mean to hold some 2x4s steady while I cut em. We're talking a walk/landing area about 10-12 ft long that leads to the stairs. It's only about 2 1/2 to 3 feet in width and is comprised of maybe 20 or so individual boards. Some of them are getting a bit rotted/bowed, figured I'd replace the whole row this year. Since they have to be cut to size, figured it would be easier to hold the 2x4s steady in a vice for those cuts after I measure. Probably get 3 usable pieces per plank. That's what I was thinking anyway. I'd just as easily use a sawhorse and c-clamps though, agreed.

Also, all this vice talk reminded me of that scene in Casino. :D

Sounds like you need a mitre saw, here’s a good budget one…

You can also use a speed square and circular saw too. I see you have a rafter square …that could be used in a pinch.

How are you cutting these 2x4s? I hope not with the coping saw or hacksaw.

Um... yeah, about that... Sorry D, I love Sega, but I've never ever liked the Master System. I really could care less for it. :(
It grew on me originally. I still love it even tho it's so old and dated.
