i think its coming along nicely. this is my first time working with MDF and its 1000x better than cheesy ass plywood.

the mdf split like everywhere. i might have to redo the mid sections, i really dont want to.

hopefully glue/paint will cover it up enough.

the stick feels solid though.

meh.

any suggestions on piecing it together? what i did was used angle brackets for the middle pieces and to attach the top to them. but the bottom i screwed into the bottom of the sides (which is why it split)

do they make small enough brads for working with something like this?

only thing ive ever done is framing.:emb:

If you wind up splitting that or taking chunks out. Get some Durhams water putty to patch it. Bondo will work but the stuff is extremely stinky.

I don't really like the top and bottom panels sticking out like that. I think it would look better as one solid shape with rounded edges/corners. And it could use some paint.

Otherwise, pretty cool.

Liquid nails is some strong shit...that's why it's used in home construction. this and finish nails should keep you golden...as long as "hold up to abuse" doesn't mean hucking it at the wall every morning when you get out of bed, even so the MDF would probably crack before the joints.

My entire house was built with liquid nails and straw.

Good work for been your first joystick attempt! Be warned this will be the first of many!

Excellent choice with the HAPPS parts, they are the best.
