I told my Japanese friend about Shibuya Kaikan closing. He was pretty sad about it. He was the one who first took me there in 2002, and the last time he went was with me 2011. Said he used to go there since high school. I would kill to have some piece of history from that place. I wonder where all the cabs will go now, from the pics alone I saw several naomi and cps3 running. I also know they had Warriors of fate running in the basement, and that Zoo keeper arcade game. Even one of the 50 yen signs would be amazing.

Found this video of it's last day in operation - Aug. 18, 2013
Seemed like an awesome place.

I was there on May 2013, it was a privilege to have the opportunity to still visit it and play there.

I visited the Silverball Museum in Asbury Pk. yesterday. This would be the largest collection of pinball tables I have ever seen. They have many rows like this one... the above focuses on 90's tables but they have ones from as far back as the 50's and as current as the new Wizard of Oz Table from Jersey Jack's. They also have a number of clean cabinets from the 'golden age' of arcade gaming. I threw together a Flickr with all the pics.

Also in the Flickr are some more photos from the Carousel 'Flashbacks' arcade and Barnacle Bill's at the NJ shore... the latter I just found out is also not currently open (due to Hurricane Sandy)

Silverball's a great place to visit if your in the area. I've only been there twice and I had a great time. I first went after they re-opened from Sandy. Other then the fresh smell of paint you wouldn't know anything had happened.

I saw this video this morning on Tumblr of an arcade in Shibuya Japan back in 1990. A surprising lineup of pinball machines. Never saw those green colored candies before.

I wish the video was longer and he didn't focus on the mostly the racing games. I could only make out a William's Whirlwind in the pinball section.

Dope video MJ. I've never seen a Pin over there in all my travels. Nice shot of Aliens at the end too :)

Whenever I used to watch fansubbed episodes of Game Center CX on YouTube you'd only rarely see a pinball machine whenever they'd tour arcades. When Arino and the crew went to that guy that sold candy cabs he had a Gottlieb Super Mario Brothers and the guy wanted an outrageous price for it. When my friend taught English at NOVA he told me the only place he ever saw pinball machines was at a place called "American Bar" and I think he said they had three. I think it's because pachinko is so big and you can win prizes most people in Japan could care less about getting a high score on a pinball machine. That and I doubt many folks know how to fix them.

When I searched the name in Japanese, it looks like it was a chain of arcades. I saw logos in a similar font. Dunno.

Here's another awesome yet, too quick of a video from the past. I'm part of the Long Island Arcade Club and we we're talking about an old arcade we used to go to called Spaceplex. One person said they had a short video from when they went for a birthday party in the early 90's and we pretty much forced him to put it up on Youtube. Shame it's not that long but you can see a lot of what they had to offer. Sucks he didn't get the hallway where you walk in, they made it look like you were walking into the Game Grid from Tron. It had smoke and a ton of laser lights. The only thing that killed the experience was the awful smell of the grease fryer that made that whole area smell like old french fries.

Also, fun tidbits. The arcade of course was a mob front and it was also where many thought the little girl Katie Beers was abducted in the 1990's. After that they beefed up security and it died a few years later.

Spaceflex looked like it really had a lot of machines inside!

Moon Jump - do you by chance know of any footage of some of the old arcades on the Wildwood boardwalk from the 90s, before it went all into redemption games? Like for example "Supercade?"I've basically done searches on youtube and google, but maybe there is a blog you know about or something that wouldn't come up in the results...

Since I'm from Long Island I only go to Jersey a few times a year, mostly passing through to go to Hershey Park with the family. The only videos I have from Jersey are 8 on The Break, Silverball Museum and Flashbacks from Seaside Heights..RIP. They survived Sandy only to burn down with that huge electrical fire. They had a lot of great 80's classics, even Atari's Hercules pinball machine. Largest ever made.

I posted the pics I have from that place earlier in the thread if you want to check it out. I had been going there every summer for a while and over the past couple years I took some pictures. I know some people were looking at me like, why the fuck are you photographing this room seemingly at random right now... but I just felt like I wanted to take pictures to preserve my memory of the place... and then lo and behold we lose it shortly thereafter. I can't believe they survived that storm only to have a 100% loss to a fire the next year. That is just the worst luck ever.

This is the first video I shot at 8 on The Break back in 2007. Sadly it was back in the early days of YouTube when I had a really shitty digital camera that just barley took videos. I don't know why I ran through the arcade in less then three minutes. Guess it was because most channels couldn't go over 5-10 minute videos so I kept it short. I was getting complaints on the video three years after I shot it...

But if you want some good old photos of The Break, you gotta check them out on Facebook. Sometimes the owner Chris will throw up an old photo like this one..

He has it listed as 1973 but I'm pretty sure he meant 83' because that's when Mad Planets came out. I've seen older photos he posted when they were purely billiards and pinball. Sucks the photos on the Facebook page are spread out so much. He's got a few albums of the original ECC tournaments. I happened to go to one of the very last ECC's they held...we made that fatal mistake of wanting a Break Steak and some pinball on that three day weekend..My god I've never been in an arcade that packed before. But what was funny was the area with the pinball machines were dead. Some people were even taking naps underneath some of the out of order ones.

Ooh. There's a neo cab, too (0:32). Can't really tell what's running on it though.

It may have been Slug 5. For some reason there was a sign up when you walked into the arcade that said "METAL SLUG 5 IS HERE!!" One time they actually put in that piece of shit, Super Bubble Pop with a banner that looked like it was printed on an Inkjet printer with a half full cartridge. The Neo comes and goes. Sometimes they'll have a one or two slot and a few times I've been there they had a four slot red unit running Nightmare in The Dark and Pulstar.

This is the first video I shot at 8 on The Break back in 2007.

It saddens me so much to see at 0:10 a Capcom Big Blue had been changed to a Big Black & Red gun game.... :(

Edit: Area 51 even!

Edit 2: Well at least they have an ST in another Big Blue, and the four other clean-ish Big Blues that I can't make out the games for (except for the one with an SFA1 marquee and MVC2 game). So it's balancing out for me.
