Randomly my phoenixed D&D popped a blue screen. Tried re-seating the cart, the roms, different cabs and motherboards, no such luck.

What causes a blue screen? I had just recently linked two cabs for 4player, but I can't imagine that causing it. I've played through it at least 10 times since linking the cabs, and I've had it for almost a year running in a cab without any issues. I know blue screen is usually when the battery dies, but this board is phoenixed.

I can't find anything on the web besides "you probably have a dead battery".

Check for bent pins on the connectors of the boards. Also, could have a bad rom. It happens from time to time.

From ChannelManiac:

Open the cart, locate where the battery used to be, and make note of the capacitor next to the positive battery lead. Short the 2 leads of that capacitor together with a piece of wire for several seconds to make sure that the memory data is killed.

Reassemble the cart, power it up, and test it.

If the memory in the chip that does the decoding gets scrambled then you may have this blue screen problem. If that doesn't fix it, send it over and I'll look at it.

Never knew about this, and that fixed it. Back to slaying dragons, 4 player style!

CM is the best there is!

Forgot about that. Mainman told me to do it on one of mine a few years ago when a game I phoenixed wouldn't boot. Worked like a charm.

I do what I can to help. :D

CM: does this trick only work for phoenixed cps2s? My darkstalkers is booting to a green screen but I don't think it's because of a battery dying. It happened right after changing a battery, but I don't think it took me over an hour.

I had this problem on a phoenixed SSF2T actually too, it just went away after a while and started working again. thank god.

Nice tip though, I'll definitely keep that in mind for the future.

Actually CPS2 can take much more than an hour to die. I've seen boards work more than a day after removing the battery (no lie).

Yes, only on phoenixed. If you do this on a non-phoenixed board you'll kill it and it'll need to be phoenixed.

But, if it's booting to a green screen, it sounds like it has suicided.
