So there is this cab on craigs list not too far from me, it is a two slot with metal slug 2 and world cup soccer. the guy asked for $400, but after I got some pictures $400 is way too much. I don't want to totally lowball this guy, I almost feel like I would regret it if I spent more than $200-250 on this.

I'll post the pictures he sent me, and how easy would it be to replace/redo the cp? That thing is scratched to hell.

edit: looking at those pictures it looks like there in a green/purple tint on either side ofthe screen. Is that the camera or is the screen fucked?

that's kinda beat up, but how much do you want it. i've only seen 2 neo cabs offered here locally and i snatched em both up for 350$. as long as i had been waiting to see a neo cab 2 or 4 slot offered locally, i would have probably paid $400 for that cab you got pictured. fortunately, i got 2 cabs in great shape for a good price.

Shit I just got an email from the guy saying the sound isn't working and he isn't sure why.

So...any idea why it wouldn't be?

@Topher: I've wanted a cab for pretty much ever, but I've always liked candy cabs better. I do have a CMVS and a few kits and what not, so I always figured I'd pick up a big red someday. I never see caps listed by me (bumfuck Texas and Michigan) so that is one of the only reasons I am considering this beat up cab.

the sound is probably just the caps ont the board or the cart not connecting right (i've had this happen to me a couple of times)...hell, use that to your advantage and offer him 250 or 300.

i personally prefer my woodies to candies simply for nostalgic reasons. all the cabs i played on at the local arcade of my youth had woodies.

got these 2 within a year of each other and haven't seen any others offered around here since then. the 4 slot board got put into the gold cab due to no sound from PCB. the 2 slot was put in the big red for the time being so i could have sound and the larger monitor.

both cabs:

Do they not do the arcade auctions around you?

If they dont, like topher said offer him like 300-350 fixing most of what goes wrong on a jamma based cab is pretty easy for the most part.

That screen looks pretty fucked up, thats not the camera. I don't know what could be done to fix it. I would suggest you find out before you offer to buy it. It may or may not be more than you want to do to save it. Which might be the reason he's selling it.

As for the sound, its an easy fix. Worst case is that its the PCB though and that can be an expensive fix. Its more likely the wiring or bad speakers.

The color problem looks like it's not degaussed properly. I've also had that problem when doing a tube swap and the yoke isn't at the correct spot on the neck. Moving the yoke up and down the neck will more than likely fix the problem. But the better question is how the monitor got to that point. Did he do some monitor adjustments or is their something wrong with the degaussing function? If he didn't do anything to the monitor (hit it, adjust it, tip it) then very likely something is broken. The worst case I can think of is that the chassis or yoke is screwed up and causing the colors to go crazy. There are lots of reasons why the audio might not be working: capacitors, bad/loose wiring, dirty slots, bad board. I'd say you're going to have to put a fair amount of work into it to get it running fully again. I'd offer $200-250. If you're patient you can find a nice fully working 2/4 slot on Ebay in your area for probably $400.

I do not know about pricing in the US but 200-250 would seem like a reasonable deal.

It looks worse than it is with the bezel missing and a CP overlay is no big deal.
The colour purity errors may be due to the degaussing plug left off, or the yoke requires realignment, if its the tube fucked, forget it. (the crt emmission looks OK though)

The no sound may be as simple as no 12 volts from the power supply.

$250 Max! Any more than that, you should walk away. I bought my 6-slot for $245. Everything can be fixed, but at a price of course. Plus it takes quite a bit of time and effort on your part. I've restored a couple of basket-case cabinets. You need a lot of space and tools to do a proper job. For $400, you should be able to get a nice cabinet with no problems. Be patient and look for auctions or news paper ads. If you are willing to take a road trip, the forums here are your best bet. Just don't spend your hard earned money on a basket case.
