Old Neo Geo collector returning — question about Chibi Maruko-chan AES value

Hi everyone,

I wanted to introduce myself briefly. I registered on the forum a long time ago, but life took me away from the Neo Geo world for quite a few years. I used to be an old-school collector back in the day, and now I’m slowly trying to catch up again — I realize I still have a lot to learn to be up to date with the current market and scene.

I was hoping some of the experts here might be able to help me with a valuation question. I’ve been trying to find recent information or sales data for the Neo Geo AES title Chibi Maruko-chan: Maruko Deluxe Quiz, but without much success.

Would anyone happen to know the current estimated market value for this cart nowadays?

I was told that a perfect copy sold in Japan a couple of years ago for around $30,000. Given that figure, I’d like to know whether this is considered a reliable estimate, because if so, I’d be tempted to sell — strictly in person — the copy I bought many years ago in Japan. What price do you think it could realistically fetch?

This sold some years ago but I doubt it's gone up much, if at all, since then. Condition is going to be a big factor as well with high end titles.

Probably also worth noting that Neo Store prices are generally pretty steep. Calculating for AES inflation it might be worth that now.

The real issue will come down to a buyer. Most likely this will have to go to a full set collector. There are probably a few dozen games that cost a few grand that they would likely purchase before ever considering picking this up. Like every Metal Slug, Pulstar, Blazing Star, Ninja Masters, etc.. Given the language barrier, unless it's an absolute steal it's probably going to sit for awhile.

If you don't have any luck selling it here, try the High End Game Room Facebook group. Those guys will buy literally anything rare if they think it's an "investment".

I remember seeing one late last year at 20,000 yen that sat for ages, no idea if it's still there. The toughest part is gonna be finding a buyer as this is about as niche as niche sales get.

As I said, I still have a lot to catch up on in the Neo Geo world. Maybe I should have started with questions about simpler games instead of Chibi Maruko-chan lol.

I picked up a nice copy about 3 years ago for $12,500. It was from one of the sealed collector types that had this on the shelf for a long time and didn't care much for Neo Geo.
