Been away for a while. 2024 started off as a steaming pile of shit, but is doing far better now. I have my wife back after a huge neurological decline and a 35mm acoustic neuroma removed from her head back in late February.

We're lucky that the local UT Southwestern Medical Center has a specialty in those and even luckier that the head of neurology was making rounds through the ER that night we first went and took her case himself.

Been away for a while. 2022 I think, haven't been very active here since 2020. Since then I've gotten my Bachelors in cyber security, I'm an engineer now at a prestigious software company in the greater Seattle area. Last year, I also launched a company building and selling flamethrowers.

Glad you're back. Looks like the stuff that was getting to you a few years ago didn't keep you down for long.

Good for you! Glad to see you back. Last picture I remember of you was you and a lady friend dressed up for a night on the town and then Sage spazzed out to the point the forum had to be rolled back and we lost 2 days worth of jimmy rustling…

I just haven't been on here much in ages, and then ages before that. Realized that this is the only place that has good records at all of the kind of person I was 20 years ago. I didn't keep journals, rarely took pictures back then. Beyond that, names and personalities of members here will never leave my brain. Hate to come back and see some people I liked are not with us anymore. I also wonder if I shouldn't have had the name change done however long ago I had that done, because people who are old members would more immediately recognize the handle dmhawkmoon. TheBigBB is the name I use on Xbox, and TheBig-BB on PSN, so I was trying to keep it consistent at the time.

I'm actually doing great. Meant what I said pretty literally. There's nothing to read into there. It's just that in the days before I used social media or Reddit or Discord or anything of that sort, this was the place I spent a lot of time on for some pretty important years of my life. And I'm coming to think that I should stop by more often.

I get that. About...6 years ago now I jumped back in after a very, very long time. My teenage years into my early-mid 20's were spent interacting with the folks here and before at Dolphin Lord's site and the old DHP mailing list in the 90's. Crazy to read very old posts from myself and others - especially on the DHP via the WayBackMachine.

Anyway, stop by often for drama and tea. Possibly a cookie or two. :)

Thanks y'all. Life's been pretty good. She got a job as a software engineer, we ended up moving in. Been together now over 4 years. Having a partner that was working in a similar field of study made thinks a lot easier when I would be just, venting about studies and what not. In retrospect what was keeping me down wasn't worth the stress. I'm much much better off and in a better place than i was then by a significant margin.

I miss this place. Even though I haven't been active here, I think about it a lot every holiday season because of the epic Secret Santa. The Secret Santa gifts I've gotten from this forum are honestly the ones that really stick out to me the most over the years. Around the same time I stopped posting here I had just started a retro gaming Facebook group for the Seattle area and it has blown up and we do a Secret Santa every year so it kind of ties that up for me. Though I guess whats' the harm in double dipping next year.

So my life these days mostly consists of cooking, cleaning, taking care of kids, and playing video games. I bought a house young before the market went to shit, we invest most of our money, and when we had kids I dumped my career to raise them cause there was absolutely no point in it anymore. If I'd continued working we'd just have had to pay someone else to raise the kids or have no time to do anything. The wife is pretty brilliant and gets paid a lot to sit there writing code and listening to people talk at her in meetings. My biggest daily frustration is how hard it is to get my kids to appreciate how good we have it, and not be spoiled shits.

My kids don't know they have bank accounts, kids saving bonds, any of that shit. When they earn some cash they get cash, when they get birthday money I give them the cash. If someone transfers money to their account I draw it out in cash and give it to them. Changing cash into meaningless replacements is the best thing the casino industry ever did to get people to think nothing of putting a few chips of plastic down and lose a thousand bucks and brush it off like it's fun.

The evolution of money into a number on a screen that children don't even have access to is a complete fuck up.

You're onto something here. I have been trying to explain the cost of things because of that disconnect, and I should do it more often. Last week I took my oldest to the grocery store, and showed him the price of some stuff. Like, my kids LOVE almond butter, and I have told them before that it's expensive, but last week I physically showed him how much food you can get for less than a small jar of almond butter. He started asking why, and we got into the cost of almond farming.

I left in 2015 or so during a pretty rough time in my personal life.

After turning some things around, and wanting to reconnect with a few people on here, I decided to step back in, at least a little bit.

I'm surprised to see how many of the same people are still here all these years later.

Eh, it's a dull story, like a sub-par tv series on a mediocre streaming service that gets cancelled after one season: boring, depressingly mundane, and not worth your time to read the wikipedia summary.

I'm sure it doesn't hold a candle to the wild adventures you've had.
