I have played pretty much no Star Trek video games whatsoever.

I played a really old-fashioned one on C64 back in the day [edit: it was a port of the 1983 arcade game]. It was very disappointing, even in the mid-80s.

Now the pinball games have been fun. I usually play one whenever I visit the Pinball HOF.

EDIT:

Hey Soilwork, you still watching DS9?

I made a thread about the Trek games once, try a quick search!
Sorry about that, Sanshiro. For those who are looking for the thread he started, here's the link.

Is that a real quote from DS9? Because if so...that's badass.

Oh yeah, the Klingon culture goes into overdrive on DS9 when Ronald D. Moore joined the writing staff --he was the one who wrote their best episodes in TNG.

Except I didn't like how he backslid the Federation/Klingon relationship. I'm about to descend back into my tiresome rant about what Trek is about and how later writers (and entire series, like DS9) missed the point. Or ignored the point for the sake of drama.

I just finished the first season of DS9 last night. I would've been far into the series by now, but I ran across Boardwalk Empire, so DS9 had to take a backseat.

Overall, I think it's a good series. I'm surprised I'm liking it as much as I am. I'm getting a bit tired of the Bajorans and the wormhole, but I've been told that the show veers away from that, so I'm looking forward to seeing what's next.

Great choice, I'm loving BE as well. Waiting for Season 2 discs to arrive in the mail from Netflix and the third season to start on HBO soon.

Yeah, the studio told them that it wasn't as interesting so after a continuation to start the second season (Star Trek's first three-parter) they kind of go on the back-burner only to reappear for some more interesting episodes.

Preach on brother STK! :buttrock:

I think ignored the point for the sake of drama (and thus viewers) is probably the reasoning behind getting more action in.

I always wanted a new Star Trek that took place further in the future than TNG and perhaps ultimately ended with peace and friendship with the Romulan Star Empire.

Isn't that what they were moving towards with *shudder* Nemesis?

I don't know what Nemesis was about.

So when they make a new series they can just retcon out all the shit I don't care for. That's how I'd do it.

If we get any new Star Trek any time soon though, wont it just end up being more action heavy like the new movie?

The new movie is fine because it's more or less unrelated. The movies were always the weak sister of the Trek franchise. You can't tell the kinds of stories Trek was created for with only 120 minutes every 3-5 years. Too much pressure to make everything the end-all-be-all and action-packed. You could never do Darmok or Inner Light or whatever in a movie. The original Star Trek: The Motion Picture was an attempt to do a tv episode-style story in movie form, and they had to pad it all to hell to fill a movie's run time, and making it a lot of people's least favorite in the process. IMO, Star Trek doesn't work well as movies, so if they're going to make movies, they might as well just go their own way like the new one.

But a new hourly series shouldn't be like that.

I went to Orlando this week, and while there saw a billboard for Star Trek: the Exhibition. I decided to go.

It really sucks. $17 to get in and it's just uniforms from the movies. The recreation of the Enterprise bridge is not electrified at all, save for the HDTV that's functioning as the viewscreen. I'd have happily paid more for something mindblowing. The gift shop has a great selection of nick nacks and tshirts, but predictably charges well above Ebay prices for similar items.
