The original Deadman stands as my absolute favorite of his various incarnations, but I've been very adaptive when it comes to Taker changing so his current persona, until his next one, starts to grow on me. However, I never liked the American Bad Ass persona…But no matter what, I will always be a Taker fangirl!
Speaking of the American Bad Ass gimmick…Still Taker, but no longer supernatural.

Hmmm...I think I understand the reasons for that change. It seemed the Undertaker had been pretty well played out and maybe fans did want to see something more "real" and "human", but that form just didn’t hold as much interest for me.*shrugs* I'm really interested to see what will be done in the future with this new hybrid Taker though…I think the idea has huge potential. His current style is really good! I think its great how he's successfully brought back the Deadman in yet another form, without it being stale!
The Undertaker is a very unique superstar. How many big men yesterday and today can you name that are able to do the kind of things that Taker can do without breaking a sweat? Not many wrestlers today, if any at all, can go on out there and have that "I'm better than ever" aura that Taker presents each time he appears and that's why he stands out from the rest. Unlike many other superstars Taker's past personas have been successful, which makes it interesting for fans to debate about which era of the Deadman that they prefer. They don't call him THE PHENOM for no reason!
Um…The issue of whether he's a face or a heel never seems to have been totally clear cut, firstly because the fans love it when he's evil, and secondly because he hasn't traditionally acknowledged the fans or manipulated them in the way that conventional heels or faces do. He's always appeared to draw his strength from some bigger supernatural source, whether it's symbolized by the urn or if it's something darker and more mysterious than that.
But I think that Taker ought to be ultimately a force for good, as I think that's what he's been in reality in people's lives. Not good in a do-gooder good citizen kind of a way, but good as in a kind of defiant "otherness" in professional wrestling, a world of banal egotism and cartoonish masculinity. In my eyes there's something life-affirming even about his coldness. Acknowledgment of death is an acknowledgment of life.
Taker is enormous, he's better than human, he's emblematic of something much more archetypal and deeper than wrestling usually allows, and of course there is a sexual element to the way I look at him. Imagination is a huge part of sexuality and Taker really captures imaginations. That's not to say I'm trying to neatly separate the character from Mark, obviously he is largely responsible and I'm simply talking about his talent and his particular presence.
For the last half decade people, fan or no fan, have been discussing Taker's "nearing-retirement". I mean what is that? We all know it's going to happen but I don't see the need in people counting down to it.

Personally, I try not to think about it as I find it very upsetting. I know the day is inevitably going to come, so I just spend the remaining time he's in the spotlight enjoying what he does so well. I will miss him terribly but the memories will live on forever.
Now that I have gotten all of that out of the way…Please forgive me for rambling yet again!

*bashes herself over the head repeatedly with a rubber chicken* I simply find this thread to be the perfect place to share my thoughts on all things related to wrestling, considering that my friends and family all HATE wrestling, and I have no one to talk to that shares the same passion for the sport as I do…
