I just hope that Al Sharpton and Jessie Jackson keep their mouths shut for once, but they won't. Jackson doesn't annoy me as much as Sharpton though, someone needs to send his bur headed ass back to Africa, (and I'm half black saying this) because the Nigger ain't cool with me.

Damn Merc you got some anger in you :lolz:

I'm a conservative so obviously I didn't vote for him but I will support him and give him a chance to help rebuild our great nation and hopefully he can help get us out of the bad times we are in now.

LOL Al Sharpton isn't cool with any black people. I think more black people would rather hang out with Michael Richards(Kramer) than Al Sharpton.

Al Sharpton still holds some sway in the black community in NYC.

If you want to make inroads into the black NYC vote, you better meet with Sharpton.

As for Jackson, He should have been nominated for the VP slot in 1984. Not like Mondale had a chance anyways....

Sharpton is a lot like Quanell X.

Outsiders just think it's just plain crazy that he would hold any sway over anybody.

But what it all all boils down to is the community. He does shit to make the roots run deep. And when shit goes down, he is almost always there to represent and tell it like he sees it.

My personal view of Sharpton is a self promoter first and a civil rights leader second. I would also say that he is wrong A LOT.

But man, we need people that stand the fuck up. We need them for those instances when they are actually right about something.

Tomorrow one local channel is going to make it Obama Day. Before his Inauguration, we'll see basically footage of anything related to him, which means if there's video of him in North Shore hanging Ten, we'll be seeing it and hearing about how fucking cool he was/is back in Hawaii... if there's one of him playing basketball and spinning the ball on his finger, we'll hear about how cool he is... then we'll proceed to the inauguration and then see that replayed along with recaps of The Obama Girl and his celebrity status, and the song WINDS OF CHANGE by The Scorpions will blare out of speakers, and ppl will hold up candles and lit lighters to the sky.

For this reason, I plan only to watch the Inauguration, then go about my day same as any.

The media coverage on Obama is absoluetly outrageous. I wouldn't be suprised if we saw a report like, "Obama and Biden recently went into a White House restroom together, and Biden came out within 1-2 minutes of entering while President Obama took almost ten. The Secret Service wouldn't allow us to go inside for 'security reasons' and told us he was just "taking a break", but our Presidential analyst tells us that judging by the amount of time he took to leave, he might have gone number 2."

And you can follow that with various infomercials of Obama collector coins, Obama commerative plates, and best of all an Obama 'Yes we can' commerative Sham Wow.

Frankly it'd be a relief from the media circus we're being bombarded with now.

It's times like these that i'm glad I don't have television.

"black people voted for him because he's black"

"some white people feeling white guilt voted for him because he's black"

"he better not fuck this up, goddammit"

This is all 100% true. Only a fool would deny it. With that said, I really believe in this man. I was watching him in the gym the other day, and didn't even have the volume on, but just looking at him listening to someone talk, then give his answer... he seems gentle. Intelligent. I can't say what it was about him that I thought was good as a leader watching that. He's far better than that moron we've had in office over the last few years. I think his job is going to suck, and I don't envy anyone in there at this moment, as it's a huge turd he's walking into, but I truly believe he's the man we need right now to turn this shit around. I'm excited as hell to have him in there.

Make no mistake, our TV is full of Obama and his inauguration as well.

Some parts of the media over here let him look like the new messiah, and of course they heap great expectations on him.

And then there's this constant "first black president" crap.

Well, I'll still listen to his inaugural address tomorrow... let's see what Mr black messiah has to say.

How important are these inaugural addresses, btw., are they actual governmental statements or just the usual political blah?

Are you suprised he's getting such "outrageous" coverage? He's a Half black soon to be leader of a world power. Most people don't think they'll EVER see something like that. And America will probably be the only World Power that that will happen in. Naturally the media is going to milk the living shit out of this.

Everybody in the world is in disbelief that such a thing even happened in America. If I had a penny for everytime somebody who isn't from America asked me about Obama I'd be rich enough to run for president after his term is finished. Everytime I hope into a taxi, go into a restaurant, shop at a store, park my car, go into a club and they hear my accent EVERYWHERE they ask me about Obama and give their support and it annoys me cuz I didn't even vote(which is a WHOLE 'nother story)

Personally I'm more interested in the way Obama will handle the Iraq problem and all its branches, including prison camps, etc. I don't give a damn on his skin color, neither do any of the people I know. The whole black president thing is totally blown out of proportion and it won't help him, on the contrary...

I think the media is doing a great disservice to him by portraying him as being the second coming. It starts creating incredibly unrealistic and unfair expectations that are going to be near impossible to meet. Not long after he got elected, Time Magazine ran a cover with a picture of him appearing as FDR. Stuff like that is just a really bad idea, and the majority of folks in this country simply don't understand this. The black community thinks he is going to be the answer to all of their ills without realizing that he has bigger problems to worry about. There is no fix-all for the black community as a whole, and it's unfortunate many of them don't realize that.

Inaugural addresses are by and large bullshit for the masses; people being told what they want to hear rather than what reality is. I was going through some old inaugural addresses and was watching them about a month or two ago. It's interesting to see Richard Nixon for example talking about how he would end the Vietnam War on January 20, 1969, only to realize nothing would happen till January 1973. Generally they sound great, but that's about it. He'll talk about unity and all of that sort of thing, as well as how they will guide America through these tough times into a bright future. Then he'll follow that up in all likelihood with short term fiscal policies that still don't do anything for the future.

Yep, I have similar thoughts on that. It would be terribly wrong to give black people the impression that Obama is "their" president.

I guess a working German analogy to a black US president would be a Turkish chancellor... now THAT would make some concrete heads explode...! :D

So basically it's like the introduction of a new chancellor over here, just in English! :)

So far I watched live the inaugural ceremonies of Bush sen., Clinton and Bush jr... I've been told it's all about the dinner party afterwards.

Well, let's put it this way, I wouldn't like to be in Obama's shoes, that's for sure.

That is a perfect analogy. It's as if the Döner-Mann became the Politiker. That's why it's such a big deal.

That will happen one day, it's just a matter of time.

Turk or German, doesn't matter either way. We have no real outstanding political characters anymore who are able to truly shape our societies and lifes anyway, the only thing they shape is the comfy chair they rest their asses on.

You are so right Tak. We really don't have people to represent our societies at large. This is actually one teeny tiny reason why I didn't vote and have never voted. I read too many damn conspiracy theories..........

He gave a magnificent acceptance speech on election night, I'm actually looking forward to hearing what his speech is going to be tomorrow. Not that it really means anything, but I have to admit, he can deliver a speech unlike most modern politicians.

The figures being quoted in news stories are actually quite overblown in terms of the cost of the inauguration.
GWB's inaugural bash ran about $40m, Obama's is going to clock in at about $45m. There's a figure going around of about $160m, but this actually includes the cost of the entire security effort, which I'm pretty sure we can all agree is pretty damned necessary, I don't know what the figure was for Bush's inauguration with security, but understanding this is the key to knowing this is much more in line with every other inaugural that has taken place.

BTW, this isn't a depression, it's actually a prolonged recession, and yes there is a difference. Of course, I wonder what the economic impact of these millions of visitors in and around the DC area is, I can easily imagine it outweighs the official expense of this event, much more so than any stimulus package.
