No, they will lay off thousands of people, it's happening now. Look at GM, look at Ford, look and XM/Sirius. Massive layoffs to recoup profits and now you increase their taxes, it'll cut into prosperity.

so really, there will still be massive layoffs even WITH all these Bush tax cuts. tax cuts aren't going to bring those damn jobs back.

FUCK.
This neocon mascot just doesn't get it.

Nobody here has any gripes with people making jets or bombs or guns or fucking laser beams or robots with lasers for eyes and guns for hands.

Because frankly all that shit is awesome...

BUT

You're not looking at the big picture here.
You are a brainwashed fundamentalist of the worst kind.
You are a traitor to your country and your fellow countrymen and you don't even know it.

You talk of national defense and security...how secure is your phoneline in America these days motherfucker?
How safe are my online cheap shots at America's eroding freedom?

Answer: not very.
The Chinese worked with Google Inc. to put anti-government bloggers and detractors on the wrong side of the dirt...think America is that far behind?

What are "homegrown terrorism laws" for? Actual terrorists? Please...

Your "national defense" is infringing on my right to NOT get wiretapped, my right to NOT get fingerprinted at the airport, my right to NOT get arrested, beaten, gassed and even fucking IRRADIATED for exercising my right to peaceful protest.

If you run into your papa tomorrow please ask him why your government authorized a Civilian Inmate Labor Program and get back to us. Thanks.

And your buddies at KBR/Haliburton have already built the Labor Camps to get ready for it. Railway going through it and everything. Just like the Nazis did it. NICE.

I think Hitler/Stalin/Pinochet/etc used to pass it off as "national defense" too.

What's wrong with Al Jazeera USA?

Only thing I thought of was I wonder if they told them what network they were being interviewed for.

"Who did you say you were with?"
"..."
"Terrorists!"

Nothing is inherently wrong with Al Jazeera, but half of America think that Osama Bin Laden owns the network. It's actually very interesting to watch their coverage of world events - not as good as the BBC's, but usually a very interesting take.

Oh, and "This post is hidden because EvoEvilIX is on your ignore list."

in these last 8 years of taxes not being raised, my mom has been laid off 6 times. (not counting the hundreds that got laid off from my job including mine these past 2 years...some jobs were outsourced to India). so to anyone who spouts "raising taxes will cause job loss" spare me the bullshit.

How the fuck can you bash socialist programs so much. Much of the EU has the best socialist programs in the world, and yet they produce some of the most well rounded people in the world. Bottom line they work and help balance out the rest of the economy and actually give people the chance to do well for themselves later on in life. If family life is less focused on money and family issues there is more time for personal development, and that means a better life for all. Not just the already wealthy. You cant say that about the united states anymore. They have lost their way and it is only going to get worse, at least for a while.

You are so diluted and brainwashed, its mind boggling.

Got it, all national defense and security in the United States is a perpetuated by Nazi Americans. I see it now. It also does nothing to protect Canada, I mean that country has benefited from our national defense, lord knows they can't do it on their own.

Canadian Border Guards Flee After 'Dangerous' Traveler Warning

BLAINE, Wash. — Four Canadian border crossings were shut down Sunday as about 60 of Canada's unarmed border guards walked off the job after they were warned that a person classified as "armed and dangerous" may be headed into Canada.

The walkouts — permitted when the guards perceive threats to their personal safety — began mid-afternoon and stalled northbound border traffic for hours.

Canada's national CTV News said the walkout was triggered by a report from Homeland Security officials in the U.S. who told the Royal Canadian Mounted Police that a suspected killer from California, considered armed and dangerous, might try to enter Canada.

Willie Hicks, branch chief for trade operations on the U.S. side, said the Canadians told him only that they'd been alerted that such a person may be en route.

Faith St. John, an official with the Canada Border Services Agency, told CTV that management staff has been called in to deal with the huge backlog of cars and trucks waiting to cross into Canada. "As more managers arrive, more lanes will be opened," she said.

By about 8:30 p.m., southbound traffic was flowing smoothly and northbound traffic was beginning to move, Hicks said.

Affected crossings were at the Peace Arch Park, for Interstate 5 and State Route 99; the Blaine truck crossing, for state routes 543 and 15l; Sumas, for state routes 9 and 11; and Lynden, for State Route 539.

There have been several such walkouts since the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.

In August, Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper said Canada's border guards will be armed starting in September 2007.

Harper said it would take 10 years to fully implement the plan. The government will have at least 150 officers with sidearms deployed by the end of March 2008, Harper said at a news conference at one of the border crossing south of Vancouver, British Columbia.

Canada is soft and socialist, they don't spend nearly the same as the United States for national defense as the Unites States has that covered. A lot of that extra cash can go towards social programs, I mean it's not like some Canadians don't mind paying 15.5%*sales tax, it's not that high.

It's really a cultural thing, I would venture to say. Any look at ExoXI's more-recent posts reflects something that is and has long been embedded in the American consciousness--that is, that the young (pre-working age) and old (post-working age) are worthless human beings. It's not something I agree-with, and frankly, it sounds like an outlook so spartan that it has no place in a post-industrial society where mechanisms and mass-production make it so that resources are bountiful enough to provide more than enough for all people.

But this kind of "give what you don't need" mentality is lost on people like him. Did I earn what I got? Damn right, I did, but I'm not selfish about it, either; I'm not here to unnecessarily horde or parade what I have, knowing that I could very easily give to those who could put it to good use. What the "socialist" programmes he and his kin hate so much do is 1) acknowledge that greedy bastards will, given the chance, horde wealth for themselves; and 2) ensures that, to the best of the government's operational capacities, people get assistance when they need it. It's that simple and it's called "compassion"--something with which pure conservatives don't agree, and though I don't have a problem with conservativism (as it makes sense in many ways), those who subscribe to it really need to just be forthright in not caring about their fellow man.

I agree with you for the most part...however, I see one tiny problem.

Certainly, compassion for your fellow man (or woman, to be PC about it) is a great thing, but the sticking point is whether it is voluntary or coerced. If they do not want to give some of their money away, so be it - if they earned their money through completely legal means, I see no problem in letting them "keep what they earn", so to speak. However, to "share the wealth" through government taxes, using the state as a conduit for funneling money to those who need it, is something I disagree with. People should be able to decide when and where, and to who they give the money, if at all.

And to add on to that: why not give tax breaks to wealthy people who do this sort of thing more often? Of course, you'd have to make it worth doing, but I can't imagine initiating privately funded programs to do the exact same things the government would do (only better) would be bad. The government should encourage these types of companies, organization, whatever, not control them. We let the government be in charge of plenty of things already, and I'd rather not have them in charge of "redistributing wealth" (which, in my opinion, is basically what it would become under government control). Again, you will have problems with insurance companies and the like, but hard work would probably sort things out.

Perhaps I'm a bit optimistic, but that's my view on it. If that seemed a bit too general and large in scope, it's because I'm tired.

Nah, I'm completely in agreement with you that conservativism "works" in that there can be no arguments/everyone decides their own fate. It's a "perfect system" in basically every way. Unfortunately, for me personally, I don't trust people to make the "morally correct" decision. EVER. Too many bad things have happened in history when individuals are left to their own, selfish desires. (The current problems with housing mortgages and such are just one of the more recent events incurred when the government steps aside.)

Basically, I support liberal use of the government because I firmly believe that more than 90% of individuals are either stupid, morally corrupt, or otherwise incompetent to operate within a society. Yes, that's judgmental, but sadly, precedent has been set that human beings (being living creatures with an imperative to destroy biological competitors) are not perfectly fit to live in societies where people have the right to live without fear of being killed. Strong government makes that possible. The alternative is to ditch the entire "society" idea altogether and return to living as 100% independent individuals.

Fuck, all this from the guy who liked the Reform Party. :D

I tell ya though. This troll has all the arrogance and confidence of an 18 year old who just read his first newspaper. How irritating.

Here's a tip, dumbass: when everyone in the room is shouting you down, that doesn't mean you're some kind of maverick (to use the parlance of our times). It just means you're an idiot.

I dare you, nay I beg you - to go tell that to a Canadian veteran of the second world war.

But when you do that you need to especially make sure you tell it to a survivor of Operation Overlord.

Make sure you tell it to someone who fought a Juno beach on 6 June, 1944.

For real lasting effect make sure you talk to someone who had a friend who died on the beaches of France that day.

I think that'll really drive your point home.

Then start shitting on the the Canadians who have died in Afghanistan to round it all off.

Please go fuck yourself.

Canada is soft and socialist....

Oh god, don't I know it brother. But Canada's ineptitude and fear of guns is besides the point.

Maybe that other post came a little too soon.
I saw an author, Eugene Jarecki go up on American television (the daily show) and shoot off his mouth about the same things I'm talking about (albeit more graciously).

And the fact that some spook didn't dump a clip in his skull (and call it a suicide on the news) gives me some hope that America still has a fair bit of freedom kicking around. So congrats on being better than China.

For the record, I don't think Obama is any different and I don't have a problem with you personally. Nobody here agrees with anybody else on anything and lets leave it at that.

"Recouping profits"?

None of those companies are profitable to begin with.

You are an embarassment to the rest of us.

"Recouping profits"?
The most entertaining (and pathetically depressing) thing about arguing for "company profits" is that, in general, when profits go up, wages and low-level pay do not follow suit. Layoffs and denial of benefits or wage increases are intended to ensure that, regardless of company performance, those in the higher echelons of the company continue to gain the same amount. Profits are "recouped" by increasing business performance and (unless those aiming to do the "recouping" are willing to openly admit that the company's failures are the fault of the workers punished by their decisions) attacking workers' livelihoods is the pinnacle of arrogant and self-serving greed.

So Obama cancelled all his appearances for Thursday and Friday because he's flying down to Hawaii to spend time with his gravely sick Grandmother who's 85 years old.

How much do you guys wanna bet that the GOP are gonna put a nasty spin to this and compare it to McCain 'suspending' his campaign?

While Nixon helped invent the current Republicant tactics, Nixon was very much a post new deal liberal republican. It was Goldwater that was responsible for the ideology of the new Republicans.

I think Bobak was referring to the Ideological slant.

I would also separate the NEW Republicans from the MODERN Republcian'ts.

New Republicans: 64-1993 (Goldwater, Regan, Bush 41)
Modern Republcan'ts: 1994-Current (Bush 43, Frist, Delay)
Nixon started the culture wars between hippies and "real Americans." You're right, he's obviously very different than today's neocons in many ways.

We're in agreement then.
