I stopped listening after McCain advocated that the government buy all of the bad mortgage debt...which was like 20 minutes in.

Again...do these two belong to a different party?

Both candidates closed weak. McCain didn't get the win he apparently needed tonight.

This town hall style is really clunky. Seemed like both candidates kept referring to every problem as "the greatest problem we face". McCain referred to his record, a lot. Obama skated around on his foreign policy questions. I'm not sold on anybody yet.

this was like Kennedy vs. Nixon.

A bit before your times, but I'm sure with all McCain's apostrophes, he knows how that one ended.

More than McCain being out of touch, he made two subject-verb conjugation mistakes in the short time I watched it.

Does failing basic English swing the undecided voters mind a mere month before the election?

He said something like "The American's jobs is" and "Americans continues to be"

Or something along those lines. It sounded horrendous to my ears at least.

If these debates were two out of three for the presidency, Barack Obama would be the president.

McCain's the name, name droppin's the game.

It's like the McCain Palin campaign has given up all efforts to court undecided, independent voters.... He's doubling down his bet on his support for the surge, and hoping that a continuation of the first 7 years of Bush foreign policy will still hold sway with the ideological spectrum of his party --- does internal poll suggest that The Conservative Base has more children of voting age than The Liberal and The Elitists?

McCain lost points on:

1. chest thumping that we can stand up to the evil russian empire and have a big fucking grin on his face after he says it.

2. make two bad jokes (the hair transplant and the "fine") that attracted dead silence.

3. Obama kept launching counterarguments out of turn. when McCain said "Well if he's allowed to do that i should get that chance too" and he quickly follows it up with his broken record stump speech of "i know how (without explaining the how)" which was a really pointless counterpoint.

I think Obama really did nail McCain on health care, when he said he thought in a nation as wealthy as ours, it IS a right. HMOs have proven time and time again, they simply cannot be trusted to run something so vital to the public good on a for-profit basis.

The retort on Iran was solid too.

The polls are bearing it out right now, except on FoX....lol

Definitely the highlight of the entire debate.

I almost wanted to scream "OH SHEEEIT" at my television.
"OH SHEEEIT" is what I scream at my television all day. I mean, did you see this week's Gossip Girl?

Interesting. Loopz can you elaborate on Obama's healthcare plan?

I didn't catch the debate.

I'm interested to see what he said because I don't think Healthcare is a right.*

*Let's not argue over this though - as i'm not against universal health care as long as I can opt out.

How about diseases transmitted in utero? Do we fuck those kids that are born with a death sentence because the system is broke?

If you say "I dont think healtcare is a right" and you mean it about crackhead bums that try to kill themselves and get resurrected on the taxpayers dime then I agree with you, but I could never make such a sweeping statement as yours.

If its not a right from this sad ass government system then what the fuck is?

I'm not going to argue with you about this. And I've edited my post to indicate that i'm not trying to spark a discussion on the merits of government sponsored healthcare.

I want to know what Obama said.

I guess I can look it up though - i'm just interested to hear people on this forums take on the issue of Obama's healthcare plan.

As I understand it, the idea is fairly simple.
If you have existing healthcare that you are happy with...its all yours and won't change.
If you are under or not covered, you would have access to a similar federal system such as that which Congress enjoys.
Children would be covered by an expansion of an S-CHIP like system.

I believe health care must be a right, because of the ridiculous numbers of medical bankruptcies by otherwise responsible people who played by the rules, used their coverage the way it was meant to be used, but still found themselves neck deep in debt. Not to mention the 47 million for whom the only health care plan is "Don't get sick." The large corporations that run for-profit health have proven that they are incapable of running something that is such a basic necessity to a healthy, functioning society. In the same way we enjoy public systems for firefighting, law enforcement and infrastructure maintenance, health care is one of those things that is simply a disaster as a privatized entity. It is too essential for the public good.

This is hilarious for two reasons.

A. There wouldn't be so many people in VA hospitals if folks in your party didn't have such a hard-on for war.

B. You guys controlled the White House for 8 years, and Congress for 12 of the last 14 years. If VA hospitals still look like shit...guess whose fault it is?

Also, what part of "You can keep your own coverage if you are happy with it" didn't you understand?
