All you really need are three things:

- An AES RGB SCART cable
- RGB/S-Video convertor box (avaliable from Lik-Sang.com)
- S-video and audio extention cables.

Simply hook up the RGB cable to your AES, and plug into the S-video box, add the extention cables to plug into your TV, and whammo, a clear crisp picture! for less than 50 bucks!!!!

If you are going to freak out over spending a hundred dollars on some modifications which will allow you to get more out of the Neo hobby, then you should find another hobby.

Hey, if there's a way to save even $10, I'll do it.

Collecting Neo stuff really has drained my finances, and I'm getting desperate.

I mostly collect CD stuff, but carts are more exciting to get, and if there's a deal to be sniped, I do it.

Welcome to the club.
What, do actuly think we all enjoy paying more?
You act like it.
Dunno why you think your any different in that regard.
Maybe it's just worth the cost of admission to some of us.

I'm pretty sure the Stereo mod isn't just tapping the headphones... I used the headphone port for a long time before modding it myself (from !arcade!'s website) and there is a CLEAR boost in bass.

I feel like I'm reading a post on Gamefaqs.com

From www.neogeousa.com This describes in detail the new Ultra Neo Geo mods that they (!Arcade!) offer. From everything I've heard these are the absolute best in Neo Geo video and sound.

Ultra Mod Systems:

We have just finished modding a large supply of Neo Geo AES systems with our "Ultra Mods". Prices will vary with each unit as they are either loose or boxed units in varying condition.

The systems can be purchased direct from us at sales@neogeousa.com or through our US distributor Video Game Depot at vgd@videogamedepot.com.

Each unit will come with the following modifications as well as the de-bug bios chip installed:

RGB Mod:

All MVS units made have one thing in common - All output direct RGB. Because of this when using a MVS board you can expect bright, clean and clear images.

The NeoGeo Home system also outputs RGB only its nothing like that of its MVS counterpart. You can expect dull, faded and often pixelated images. The last two revisions of the NeoGeo Home system will not even work with most 3rd party RGB monitors.

Our new RGB mod completely shuts down the standard RGB and Sync outputs - And enables true MVS quality RGB video out regardless of revision. This is a internal mod which is connected to the NeoGeo's Din-8 connector and will work with all SNK/3rd Party RGB cables.

S-Video Mod:

The current s-video mod in use today has several flaws:

1) There is no free space on the main board for the s-video components. This leaves little choice but to mount the parts on top of near by logic chips. You have a choice to mount the new hardware on top of the Neo's RGB logic or on top of the Neo's clock generator logic. The act of mounting hardware on top of other hardware results in distortion - so you distort the video or the over all performance of the system.

2) The Sony CXA1145 chip used isn't easy to work with - because of this SNK has made several changes to the RGB input levels in an attempt to output better video. Due to these changes the svideo mod will not produce the same video on all NeoGeo home systems.

3) Poor svideo - With all svideo mods the image will have color problems and a rainbow effect. This is unavoidable with the current method.

We wipe the table of all the above issues by simply shutting down the core of the problem - the Sony CXA1145 chip. Our new mod will use a custom board which holds its own RGB chip designed to output high quality composite and svideo. This board was designed for the NeoGeo's video and will produce the highest quality picture possible without going RGB. You can expect bright, clean and correct images from any NeoGeo regardless of serial number or age.

Stereo Mod:

The current stereo mod is done two ways - The first is to tap the headphone port which will produce a lower quality signal for those with stereo systems. This method will however sound ok on low-end televisions. The other method is to tap the stereo signals in their pure form, this method is the standard for sound out.

The sound system built into the NeoGeo was state of the art when it was finished in 1989. Sound systems since then have come a long way. Our new Stereo Mod will upgrade the NeoGeo's sound hardware to produce a clean and enhanced signal not thought possible. Users can look forward to hearing everything a game has to offer along with deep base and clear effects.

Your right, the headphones isn't what most people use.
Although they are still using the standard neo hardware, just a different part.
Much better sound in my experience.

Only Arcade says they do it differently, but I cannot really say as I do not own a arcade modded system.
