no man's land: when rare (potentially sought after) shit is just too obscure.

so I was going to buy a couple of Red Earth kits (minus art), these being damn rare and sought after, so I thought yeah, might be my lucky day.

lol. now that's fucking rare as they come. if the US version is rare, this one is probably alot rarer.
but... sought after? before today I didn't know this existed and I doubt alot of people did either.
the japanese version is worth a relatively small amount, whereas the US region one is worth alot.

this one?
definetly dificult to justify a good price I should imagine - what drives the price with these things is desirability rather than availability - if it was down to rarity it should be worth as much if not more than the US version. but as it stands I think that though it's a really interesting find (quite happy about it), it's just too obscure for its own good. there isn't the kind of fervor for this stuff in spanish speaking countries as there is in the west I think. arcade collecting down south is as niche they come. upto a little while ago this was material to be used in actual arcades - it's only now that they're becoming available on the market for the general public.

I might pick one up though. it's Red Earth after all. excellent game.

How do you always stumble upon these rare treasures!? I've seen so many of your threads where you have something uber rare arcade related.

i'm so jealous of this one though. that would completly suck if the cart died.

and for the record, I wasn't aware that there was a hispanic version. Lucky you.

thanks man. I guess it's a little bit of luck and a little bit of jumping into the deep end. there's nothing I like more than going on a treasure hunt. especially here in Argentina. such strange places I have visited, and many a time come back empty handed, but it was fun as hell journeying out into the unknown (I guess you could call it storm riding, as merc would put it).

I'm a nerd in the end. a nerd who likes to get his hands dirty. and finding stuff is more of a hobby than keeping it (which is great also, but the high is finding stuff in the first place).

oh and latin america is just one giant flea market. lol. it's true.

I think very few people where aware of Red Earth Hispanic version - and they those people where probably unnaware of it's significance.

lol. I think you could call it networking. having good contacts. and also just pure luck. but come on, so many people have such good stuff on this site. I would kill for some of the things people have found in the wild. it's just fun to share.
I think finding the Battle Bird pcb was the highest point of my pillaging. that and the Rumble Fish proto. both where found by utter fluke.

still have to get a fucking cab to play the Final Fight hack. jesus. should be a couple of weeks more.

edit: by flea market I mean everyone smells funny and most places sell junk and bootlegged material.

Red Earth is rare now? Damn. I haven't been dealing with the arcade side of stuff much for over a year now, but back before I slowed down one of the places I dealt with literally had a truckload of new kits that they were trying to move out. Going to have to try and remember all of the dealers I dealt with and see if I can track them down, and if they still have any.
