Lol my switch 1 has been banned since like 2 days after the RCM hack was released. Couldn't care less. Isn't Nintendos online service complete shit anyway? Do they still use those friend codes and shit?

I'm not sure if I'm going to pick an S2 up with all this fuckery going about.
The key card deal is more a slap in the face to me than a code in the box.
The thought of a banned/bricked console just because I bought the wrong used game from eBay is also quite off-putting.
Depending on the rest of the PS5 lifespan and what a potential PS6 looks like down the road I might just be done.

Nah. Really? It sucks, but the code in a box with no disc really sucks. How is the key card that different from existing Xbox and PS games where you're basically just putting the disc in to prove you own it? At least you can resell.

The only real difference is the userbase. In general, the Xbox and Playstation fanbase don't particularly care anymore, but the percentage of collectards into Switch is infinitely higher, and they're losing their goddamn minds over this.

I think the biggest issue - at least to me - is if you get this key card thing, you are just buying a code in a box. Sure, ok - you download it. But then Switch 3 or Nintendo256 comes out or whatever and they delist that game. The game you purchased.

Its gone at that point.

The real difference is that Xbox and PS games usually have a game on the disc, but a key card has nothing on it.

But I'm not worried about playing modern games in 15 years. I don't understand these people who are worried about it -- I guess they're younger, or this generation of games is more meaningful to them than it is to me. But I'd assume someone still playing a Switch 2 in a couple decades who really wants to play these would just have a hacked console anyway. The MIG cartridge even already exists.

It combines the worst aspects of physical and digital.

Maybe these key cards will be rare and valuable some day, since they aren't selling well so far. (I think they will sell a little better when there's more than just ports of previously released games.)

If you're concerned about key cards, you have bigger issues, like buying third-party games on console.

Donkey Kong Bananza looks way better than I expected, but some of that is that I forgot Retro Studios was making Metroid Prime 4 and not this. My expectations for western studios are at an all-time low.

There was some speculation that Bananza is from EPD, which will probably gain more traction with Pauline now shown. The only down side is that would mean that this is likely the rumored 3D Mario game.

It does suck to pay more for a "physical copy" of the game and not even have the game on card, so I understand where people are coming from. It think people really don't want an all digital future and this feels like another shift forced in that direction. It is kinda funny though, as all of these people "boycotting" key cards will just move it further in the direction of all digital.

I guess it is more of a bummer for me than anything, as the best thing about the Switch is putting the game in and not waiting for some huge download before you can actually play it.

Bought a Switch 2 on a whim the other day. Wasn't really excited about it but curious. Mario Kart World is a fucking blast - played for a good four hours last night and smiled more than I have with a video game in a very long time, even some bursts of laughter and day I say...hints of joy? That's all.

Carry on with your discussion about digital ownership rights.
