My smoking and drinking are completely tied together with each other, and the only way to quit one is to quit them both. I had about 6 years sober and 5 years free from smokes, then i moved to japan where it’s very difficult to get weed (and super illegal) and all my coworkers expected me to go out drinking with them after work and there went that.I went from pack a day, to vaporizer, to cherry nicotine lozenges. I actually like the lozenges the best. I keep a bottle around in case I drink and get the urge. I got drunk once after having quit for nearly 10 years, and was addicted for like a year after that. Had to quit all over again.
Have since managed to quit a few times over the last 4 years but always end up relapsing. I should start doing long distance running again, that really helped keep me away from smokes.
