Just got my Pocket system today, and have a few questions for everyone about it :D

I was wondering what the deal was with the different versions of the games.

i.e.- some were offered w/ snap lock, some in cardboard, some in both, some in Japanese, and some in English?

Did any US releases have snaplock cases?

Also, why 2 versions -- color and non color? I'm assuming the color came out as the higher end (new) model?

What is most desired gamewise (title, country)? Are any pocket games considered rare like some NGH games?

How much does Metal Slug NGPC US go for? How about JPN version? How can I find japan versions of these games in the US -- what's my best bet?

Anyone done a price guide? or ?

Welcome to the club !

The games were released in different formats depending on the intended market. In some instances games were only released for certain markets, e.g. Ganbare Neo Poke Kun was Japanese only, Evolution was Europe and Japan only. USA had the smallest release with about 30 games, followed by Europe with 40ish and Japan with close to 70.
I believe American games were all released in the cardboard boxes, Japanese initially in the Snap lock followed by cardboard, while UK were all snap lock.
From a collectors point of view the snap lock cases are preferred. They also tend to be in better condition than a cardboard box.

All games will play in any NGPC console.
However, some games only display the language of the intended market, while others depend on how you have your console set up, e.g Metal Slug will play in Japanese or English.

Correct, the original Neo Geo Pocket console release in 1998 was B & W only, followed a year later by the Neo Geo Pocket Colour. There were only about half a dozen B & W games released; the majority are colour.

The most desired game could be discussed for ages, but people generally agree it is the UK release of Pocket Reversii - that doesn't mean it is the best game, which will depend on your own gaming preferences.

I would have thought you could get Metal Slug US for about $25 if you shop around. Best bet for all versions is Ebay or some of the online shops.
Or watch this space, 2D and I are about to put all our spare copies up for sale ... :) :) :)

Re price guide, I suggest you check the completed item prices on Ebay. The professional retailers tend to be dearer, but occasionally you see them in a clearance sale.

Thx for the info. How do the prices compare here in the NeoStore compared to the prices on ebay? Seems about the same.

Yeah from what I've seen I'd say they're about the same. Every now and then you can somethin' on ebay for 5 bucks or less, but they're bout the same for the most part.

I hate MS1, I'll swap it for something I'd like...Turf Masters? Puzzle Bobble? Neo Poké Kun if I throw in some cash too?

It's the USA version, mint uncreased manual, very slightly scabby (flaking) box edges, mint cart in mini plastic box.

Someone make a deal with me...please... ;) I'm open to offers.
