Am I the only one who doesn't like a lemon in my beer? I consider it a criminal act.

I say it compliments only certain beers. I had a lemon with one of my beers in NY and it was good.

So what has anyone been drinking lately?

Went to a great Tennessee crew gathering last night and one of the guys was nice enough to bring along his bottle of Dogfish Head Festina Lente. Amazing beer.

Lots of other interesting stuff too, about 30 beers in total and also did a few face to face trades and came back with as much beer as I left with.

Still have my generic Peruvian beers - about the last thing I drank was a Samuel Smith Organic Lager.

I had something new over at Crown & Anchor, but I totally forgot what it was. Go me. :loco:

Although, I do remember having an Old Speckled Hen at Dash no Chris's house (his house is stocked with lots of English beer). It's stronger than I expected, but smooth. Definitely grabbed me by the proverbial balls.

Met a guy at the bar last night that is a brewery rep for The Duck-Rabbit and Green Flash. Talked to him for probably 3 hours over a few pints, hoping maybe I can keep in touch with him and maybe find a small way in to a brewery job.

I'm currently trying a cream stout from St. Peter's Brewery. It's strong and it's one of the few beers that's given me a slight buzz from just a few sips.

Was getting around to editing some photos from the past 6 months, and I found a photo of one of my favorite beers. In fact it was the very type/brand of beer that turned me onto beer at the same location --I previously hated the stuff, mostly because I was trying only crap (what else to expect in college?). Then one day, spending time in Pasadena before the annual USC/UCLA game, I went with a buddy to the local Gordon Biersch brewery in old town and had a draft of the Gordon Biersch Hefeweizen. Holy cow, I was in love.

I don't assume their numerous airport branches have the same quality, but the brewpubs --at least this one-- pours one of the best beers you can have (and I don't just like them in summer months).

In this case it was after a very hot day in the LA Coliseum, watching and yelling during the USC-Ohio State game. Since we ended up trampling the Buckeyes, I took my Ohio State friends who'd traveled with me to Old Town and we had some brews and food. Lemon only adds to it.

Damn, I don't get a chance to drink this stuff out here --just looking at the beer makes me thirsty. I remember I was so enthralled by this brew that, back in 2001, I bought two of their glasses just like the one I'm holding here.

Fiancee actually just went to a GB location in Atlanta last night and got a hefeweizen.

I consider myself a decent Sam Adams fan, for a good sized brewery its still good beer. Im looking forward to trying the new Stouts line there doing. Only Imperial I have had was the Flying Dog, and it was good. Got this mail

"The Imperial Series includes two new beers, Samuel Adams® Imperial Stout and Samuel Adams® Imperial White plus an amped up recipe of the legendary Samuel Adams® Double Bock. You can find all of the stats on the website (will be up in a couple of days, we're told) but Jim wanted to be the one to tell you about them. So, the office guys got some cameras, came into the brewery and filmed this little segment. Hope you enjoy it."

Should be in stores end of this month. Not sure what craft and other brews I will get next time. I need some new stuff, and more of that Chimay Grand Reserve.

The Imperial Stout is pretty good, the Imperial Double Bock is eh, and the Imperial White I have yet to open.

Their Imperial Pilsner which they've had a couple years now is also good.

Just had a 2004 Hitachino Nest New Year Celebration Ale and a 2009 Hitachino Nest Commemorative Ale.

Same beer, just a name change for this year.

Both are amazing, and amazingly different, the fresh bottle is easy to pick out the orange and vanilla, while the older bottle gives way to the spices (coriander, nutmeg, cinnamon).

One of only two beers of theirs that I have had that I am particularly fond of, the XH is the other. They have a couple ok beers and then a couple that are tough to get through a single bottle. Almost all of their beers have this cedar note, and while I know one of them is aged in cedar casks, I don't think all of them are. This has led me to think that maybe their house yeast is giving off the flavor that I am perceiving as cedar.

They've got a PDF online for each store, so I will work on this later when I have some time.

Yeah, thats about right.

Unfortunately green bottle is the only way to get the original Budweiser (sold as Budvar in the EU and Czechvar in the states for legal reasons). It is a damn good pilsner too despite the lengthy trip and green bottle.

But yeah, as a general rule of thumb no need to stay away from 'imports' that usually are nearing the end of their freshness and have been in a green bottle under florescent lights the whole time.

Ok here is a pick six of lighter styles with alternates.

Allagash White or Ommegang Witte
Lost Coast 8 Ball Stout or Left Hand Milk Stout
Anchor Liberty Ale or Oskar Blues Dale's Pale Ale
Bell's Amber Ale or The Duck-Rabbit Amber Ale
Highland Gaelic Ale or Rogue Dead Guy
Kona Longboard Island Lager or Brooklyn Pilsner

Oddball styles you may not like
Dogfish Head Festina Peche (slightly sour Berliner Weisse)
Fort Collins Z Lager (Smoked beer)

All of these should come in under 2 bucks a bottle as singles.

I'll save pricier recommendations for later, but if you want one, I'd suggest starting with Orval.

I thought about putting more NC beers on the list but figured you may have already had some of them, Gaelic Ale is indeed great beer.

Good luck.

Drinking a Gouden Carolus Noel right now, great beer, big licorice flavor.

Also had an Abbot's Ale. Spicy and a bit on the light's side. Very chuggable. :loco:

So who is drinking right now?

I'm up to beer 8 for the day.

Although I admit to having poured a few of them down the drain. The Port, Sherry, and Lagavulin cask aged J.W. Lee's Harvest Ales were all relative drain pours. Big time cardboard and oxidation.

I had a Brooklyn Lager over lunch. Not a bad little sweet/hoppy beer for meals. Although after 2 they start to taste "meh".

Lately it's been all Dale's Pale, Orval and Maredsous 8 for me.

Haven't gotten to that Ten-Fiddy yet. I also picked up an Alaskan Smoked Porter I am looking forward to drinking. Me likey the smoke. :vik:

Alaskan Smoked Porter

:envy:

Nice. I'm working on dwindling down my backlog of beers basically. I'm down to only a few cases with some expensive Cantillons that I will save for a tasting with friends.

I drank a bunch of different BrewDog Paradox barrel aged beers the other night with a friend, just pulled them straight out of my basement and drank them, they keep at such a perfect temperature down there, not too cold at all.

I was reading some of my earlier posts in this thread...lol

I had a Smithwick's the other night as well as a Downtown Brown from Lost Coast Brewery.

Smithwick's - The Banana is in LOVE. 'nuff said.

Downtown Brown - Decent, nutty, finished it a little too quickly.
