got mine off amazon.
don't mind waiting for them to ship cause i'm still playing FFIV.

the nes one was great.
i would go back and just play chapter 1-4 then quit.
in chaper 4 with taloon (merchant guy) i would work the shop untill someone sold the sword of malice then try to get enuf money to buy it.
best sword for him in that chapter.

This game improves upon the original formula impeccably.

  • You can open doors and search shelves/cabinets/pots without digging through a menu.
  • You actually walk at a reasonably fast pace.
  • You can advance the dialog box with any button
  • The map shows where you've been
  • You can find out what goods are available at a town WITHOUT VISITING SHOPS

Theres more awesome features I'm probably forgetting ATM.

The ACCENTS certain denizens have, however, are fucking killing me.

I'd rather just use my imagination than wade through something like,

I'm wonderin' if that tur tae the west has somethin' tae dae wi' it all, but I dinnae hae the first clue hoo tae get inside

(This is an actual piece of dialog. "Tur" is supposed to be "tower". Jesus christ.)

I made it to the underworld. Dragon Quest V&VI continues since it is a trilogy and I can't wait for the DS releases. Also Dragon Quest IX. :D

So, from what I understand, the online portion isn't a true co-op experience but more a small add on where you build some sort of city??:conf:

I don't understand that part myself and I can't figure out how to build a town in the game. :conf:

You go to the dude's house in the immigrant town and set it on "chance encounter" and have a local friend do the same. You're able to exchange citizens and build your town that way. I think it works like 7 did otherwise, you just go from town to town to try and recruit new citizens.

I'm about 20 hours in and ready for this game to end. As much as I like DQ games, the dungeons are getting longer, and I usually get sick of games at this point.

What part of the game are you at? IMO Chapters 1-4 are incredibly engaging (especially Taloon/Torneko's chapter -- requisitioning weapons is a really funny way to end the chapter in lieu of a boss battle) but Chapter 5 draaaaaaggs onnnnnnnn.

(And, on a side note: if you're bored, why not just stop playing DQIV and start playing something you actually enjoy?)

I was gonna hold off for a few weeks before buying this, but threads like this make it awful hard. ;)

And I still have a couple games that I haven't touched for DS (Hotel Dusk and Apollo Justice: Ace Attourney say hi). Sometimes it's fun to be spoilt for choice.

Well, I haven't had time to play this week, so I did stop playing then then started up again and now I'm enjoying it again. Very close to beating it.

did you use the horn to call your wagon & use all your characters?
after you beat it you start chapter 6 and can get a new character.

Yep but I lost 4 times against the boss on chapter 5 and so I need to level up more and collect more gold to get some more liquid armor. The Casino has an accessory bracer that I need and I ran out of those other bracers that save your life but they explode. lol

How many chapters are there? :)

I fought the last boss and got owned. I think I need to grind some more.

Protip: Give all your characters some kind of armor that reduces damage from ice and fire attacks, and blow the baron's horn outside the volcano before the battle so you can swap members out. I think I'll try swapping meena out for kiryl and have her cast insulate. That'll help out big time.

I'm building up all the character's levels by encountering Metal King Slimes that give tons of experience points and they are on some island where priests and nuns live. I lost against the Manslayer boss when it had a second face. Thanks for the tips. :D

theres a chapter 6 after you beat the game.
you can get the manslayer (human form) by going to the town in azamoth (the center island you can only get to be ballon) theres a hole in the alter go down and get to the bottom and you will fight 2 characters (kill Foo first he knows revive).
don't forget the zenith sword removes spells from opponent like buff.
then they will send you to the top of the yagadril tree to get a flower.
take it to roses grave then to were you beat psaro the manslayer and he will join.
he can equip any cursed armor cept for the cursed helm & there is a new boss at diabolic hall.

kill foo & chow to get psaro's best equipment.
if you finish all the monsters in the big book of monsters you,ll get 300,000 coins for the casino save them for when you finish your town.
you get a beater casino if you build your town up. (metal helms fomr 100,000C)
you can't get the castle with the casino untill you beat it first.
