Hey there Vegas folk. Managed to swing by Cyberpunx yesterday with a friend on my day off, and I was pretty disappointed. The MVS cabs Player 1 side was borked and my friend and I were really jonesin' for some two player Metal Slug 5 action. We ended up playing The Simpsons more than anything. Weak. :P

The killer was that they took out Neo-Geo Battle Coliseum cabinet. Any idea why? The was my main reason for going there, and the guy that had working on the counter didn't look like he was in the mood for answering such questions (grimace + headphones + some FPS online = me not bothering).

Erik is back in town, isn't he? :D

I miss you guys like you wouldn't believe. Just to let you know though, things will hopefully change this September once I get a car.

Aw, dammit, are you serious? What the hell? Have they actually filled the floorspace they'd dedicated to it to something else, or is there just a big empty spot where it used to be? I can imagine that maybe it wasn't getting all that much play from the MVC2/CVS2/SFIII3rd crowd on SRK.com's "Vegas Scrubs" thread, but maybe if they would've set NBC at 25 cents a play instead of 50, more of 'em would've tried it out a bit. Hopefully it's just broken and being fixed, or they're swapping it out for KOFXI, but I'm not gonna hold my breath. Nuts.

Hey Chris, I dont "get" your sig. As a matter of fact, I find it rather frightening.
Here's the deal with my sig. When I shaved my head back on 4/16, I decided I wanted to get some "work in progress" photos and photoshop'em into a sig (since I've never bothered making one 'til now), and to make it look a little like a Japanese banner-advert for a movie. The white text says: 4/16/2006 National Roadshow (click here -- and then click "i agree" -- for an explanation of Roadshow, a film distribution/presentation methodology all but forgotten in the U.S. but still very much in use with Japanese cinemas).

The large red & yellow title reads "Maruhage e no michi" [the road to complete baldness]. Maruhage has been a favorite Japanese word of mine for several years now, owing to its use in a Japanese anagram/pun of sorts in the 1990 anime series, NG Knight Lamune & 40. The villain of the series was the bald-headed, bushy-bearded Don Harmage (don harumage ドン・ハルマゲ ). Reversing the two portions of his name gives you harumagedon ハルマゲドン , the Japanese phonetic representation of what we Westerners are used to spelling/pronouncing Armageddon -- the Japanese pronunciation is actually closer to the original source name, Har Megido, which refers to the plain of Megiddo in the Jezreel Valley of northern Israel, as found in the Book of Revelation. The extra layer of humor in Don Harmage's name comes from switching the 1st and 3rd characters of harumage ハルマゲ which results in maruhage マルハゲ , meaning "complete baldness," which was one of Don Harmage's defining physical characteristics.

For the smaller red & yellow catchcopy text beneath the title, I originally wanted to take a Japanese phrase or quote that involved the word harumagedon and change it up a little bit to suit the purposes of my sig. Unfortunately, I couldn't find anything that I liked, so I decided to look for catchcopy phrases from video games that included the phrase "e no michi" in their titles. CAPCOM's "Tora e no michi" (aka Tiger Road) proved the perfect donor:

tora0036.jpg

The catchcopy splashed across this Tora e no michi flyer/leaflet/chirashi reads 虎になれ!それが勝利への道 "Tora ni nare! Sore ga shouri e no michi" [become a tiger! that is the path/road to victory]. For my sig, I altered the catchcopy to 虎刈り!それが省力への道 "Toragari! Sore ga shouryoku e no michi." toragari means "a close-cropped head" and shouryoku means "labor-saving." So, the catchcopy translates as "A close-cropped head! That is the path/road to reduced effort." Which, I've discovered, really is a true statement -- getting ready for work is much easier/quicker now that I don't have much hair to shampoo, dry, and pompadour.

Speaking of which, I gotta be at work in less than 40 mins -- TTYL.

Where was the cabinet located? There didn't look to be much room for the cabinets that were there to begin with, so its possible the space was filled. There was an empty control panel by the door though that it might've belonged to.

Anywho, it seems kind of odd to take out a relatively new game that might attract Neo heads and leave a game like The Simpsons, which I'm sure doesn't get all that much play. Hopefully its just broken.

The Simpsons tends to generate revenue like mad since it's a quarter muncher and everyone knows the brand name.

btw, Chris. Wikipedia is your friend.

Yeah, that upright, megalo-style control panel has been lingering by the door for a week or two now (surprised no-one's walked off with it, frankly). The NBC cab was on the last cab on your left as you walked in the door (CVS2, SFA3, MVS, NBC, iirc). Did they take it out in order to make room for SFIII3rd? (I haven't been to Cyberpunx since before 3rd was installed)

Yeah, unless you're retarded like me and try looking up this subject under "roadshow" instead of "road show." Don't get me wrong, I love Wiki, but I gotta defer to a website that involves our excellent friend Paul Mayer:

Of course, it's annoying as hell when that website is a BBS that apparently doesn't allow direct-linking to any of it's threads...:blow_top:

@Domino-chan: what's your schedule look like this weekend? are we gonna be able to get a few of us together for some EVO training? who's bringing the raw eggs and whey powder?

Edit: Yep, I'm working Sunday night. The woman hasn't come back yet (we're not even sure if she will come back), so I'm still on six nights a week.

Like I said, if you know anyone looking for a job, we still have openings. :D If this person doesn't come back, we'll have a Sun-Thurs. full time swing shift available that's 4pm-12am, and a possible two swing (Fri-Sat nights) and two grave (Sun night & Mon night) relief position.

Please have them apply soon because dammit, I need to practice too!

That's pretty flippin' clever, dude. It's really only the arrow guy incarnation in your sig that creeps me out. The others are ok.

Heh -- that was my 5-minute tribute to Yukki, the drummer for Japanese "yank-rock" band, Kishidan. Before shearing off the mohawk stage of my headshaving process, I had to do the arrow thing, if only for a few minutes.

That's crazy stuff, man.

Does anyone want some Samurai Spirits 5 Special action?

Have apparatus, will travel.

I'm kinda limited to the afternoon tomorrow, though.:(

Or in the 'Vegas Get-togethers thread, where everyone can see it and suffer. I take it you're an out-of-towner, what with quoting our Convention & Visitors Authority's ad campaign slogan (which most-if-not-all of us locals are pretty tired of), right?

Heh. I'll have to show you their music video collection DVD.

I'll see y'all after 7/5 -- gonna be in the dealers room at Anime Expo '06 (Anaheim) for the next several days.

If you see a cheap copy of Space Sheriff Spirits for PS2 on the dealer floor, roll 'em for it.

Maybe doing Superman with road show format would've made it more tolerable. :kekeke:

Yep. We don't have any catchy tourist slogans in Minnesota. Well, besides "Come visit the land of the hot dish." GT threads are useful - it's easier to co-ordinate than wasting cell phone minutes or having long conversations with multiple people.

What DnC realizes is that there are kof games available for Keitais and US Cel phones. Why he hasn't rushed out to buy one is beyond me. ;)

Looks like they got the Neo-Geo cab fixed over at Cyberpunx. Bad news though is Neo-Geo Battle Coliseum is gone for good. Apparently, it was only making $3 a week.

Would've been nice if they gave it more time to generate some sort of interest. :\
