it's doubtful the Neo-Geo cabinets would go anywhere else, huh... so much for those Shock Troopers 2nd Squad scores living on
Thanks, BBH. Started digging around right after I posted and ran across that very site. Didn't even know it existed 'til today. Are you a registered member with that forum, or a lurker. If you're registered, I wonder if you wouldn't mind posting a reply in one of those threads with a link to
this page in this thread (just to kind of put together these 2 disparate groups, both upset at the loss of Gameland).

Chris, I'll be working from 7-3 that day, so definitely swing by my work to pick me up. I'm all up for throwing down at the arcade one last time.
Cool. I'd like to be there right at 10a.m. when this thing kicks off (hey, NeoTheranthrope -- this means you need to be ready early, 'kay?

). As long as I let management know that I'll be ducking out for about 30 mins to pick up another customer, I don't think I'll have any problem being re-admitted to the lock-in. Send me a PM sometime tomorrow to remind me that I'm supposed to pick you up at WORK this time (don't want to forget).

They've always had pretty decent sized amount of customers, so I'm really surprised that they'd be going out of business. I don't understand why they couldn't have just opened up a LAN cafe there and kept the party going. I'll do my best to get there.
Seems to me the landlord could've worked out an arrangement to make the LAN facility a part of Gameland itself -- that way he could've had both types of gaming in his plaza, instead of one killing off the other. Then again, the BBS linked to by BBH seemed to hint that Gameland's management had some kind of standing agreement with the landlord that no other games facilities would be opened in the plaza -- apparently the landlord didn't honor that agreement.
Fygee, man, this is your last chance to join the rest of us for a Gameland NEO get-together. Leave the family hog-tied in a broom closet for the day if you have to -- you simply have to be there for this.
BTW, Fygee: another LV local, going by the handle KumagaiToshiro, posted
this thread on the topic of Gameland's impending closure at MadMan's Cafe. Just wanted to point the thread out and ask you to post a reply there as well (you and I are the only 2 LV n-g.com folks I know of who also post at mmcafe).

New York New York, was and as far as I know -is- the best strip arcade. Unfortunately, my info may be obsolete. I haven't been in there since august of 2001, due to their habit of treating everyone who wears a backpack (I.E. me) like a terrorist.
Out of town, lies the best arcade in this entire cursed state: Buffalo Bill's
Buffalo Bill's is in the tiny "town" of Primm (formerly, Stateline) Nevada. The whole purpose of the place is to distract tourists who already drove 200 miles, from driving the additional 30 to Vegas. And distract it does. The arcade is a big multileveled affair, larger than the Luxor's or the NY NY's. It's selection of games is both wide and deep, with a ton of genires, usually with the best examples of each and a very good selection of both old and new games. The machines are resonably well kept, but the kids there who play on them are a problem sometimes, due to asshole parents using the arcade as cheap daycare.
I've wanted to do a Neo field-trip or something up there, because it really -is- a good arcade (and because it's one of the places that I can't just go to on the cat bus)
Quick solution to the NYNY problem: leave the backpack at home, wear clothes with more pockets.
I second your motion to do a NEO roadtrip to Buffalo Bills. We could make a whole day of it, what with the arcade, the restaurants, and the roller coaster. Who else would be up for something like this, and what days of the week do each of us have off? I work Tues-Fri, so I'd be available Sat, Sun, or Mon.

You think Gameland is willing to sell of one of there big red? Hopefully the messed up Matrimelee cab
I was interested in finding out what Gameland was asking for some of their cabinets, and also interested in having your opinion (as our local expert) on their condition/value.
The manager also mentioned that some of the DDR crowd were talking about bringing food, pot-luck style, and making a big thing out of this -- one of them was even talking about bringing a BBQ grill. I was thinking of trying my hand at another cake (to see if I can redeem myself after the Billy Kane cake fiasco). Anyone else got some ideas for simple-to-make/-eat/-cleanup food items?
@BBH: if you're able to post in the DDR forum you linked to, can you ask if they're still going ahead with their pot-luck food plans?
