They're veteran developers, I can't imagine their Steam/PS versions being wrapped up roms instead of proper ports. If they are... this is really the end of everything.

GG Aleste 3 was a rom, but it was encrypted. It took like a year after it was dumped for someone to figure out a way to decrypt it, so it didn't happen overnight.

Supposedly the reason they're staggering the MD release is they want to make sure there are no issues needing to be patched before they start manufacturing carts. In other words, they're using the digital release players as beta testers for the MD version.

I love M2, but if you want to do a cart, put up or shut up. They dragged their feet and then shamed and pointed fingers when the inevitable happened.
