Not "too bad" is the best that can be had from this thing? No wonder the X is a couple of weeks from the bargain bin.
Got you something help with the hurt.

Anyway it's not that bad we can't sit in the AES/MVS age forever (As nice as it would be :). Just have to see what happens with updates from tommo and possibly with the system being hacked might get some good fixes.

Nah, no hurt here chief. My mvs plays games just fine.

We can't sit in the mvs age forever? I'm all for moving onward and upward but you can't seriously consider the X as an improvement.

Let me put it to you this way. If I was back in the early '90's playing my AES at home and miraculously I was given the opportunity to take a glimpse into the future. How amazing would that have been to see all the technological advancements in gaming over the course of a couple of decades. Imagine how shocked I would have been to see people still playing the same games I was playing at that moment but with inferior video quality and sound. WTF? I can only imagine that my first thought would have been that some sort of global catastrophic event (like a fucking asteroid impact) must have occurred to set humans back a few decades. Now that would have required some pain relief.

I'll keep my fingers crossed that you finally get your audio and video quality issues back up to '90's standards.

Dude, you can't just offer a guy ass cream and not expect any repercussions.

I was expecting it lol.

As for your post I'll add something more from my side of things. If we were to go back to the 90's and look into the future of everything made today. It would of been one sad day. Everything is cheap garbage now most stuff quality wise does not even touch things from the 90's and even lower. Most games are released unfinished when most games in the 90's were finished.

So as far as the X goes. I wasn't expecting a super tweaked done product. I was expecting what I expect with basically everything I buy today. A watered down cheap verison that will hopefully be improved over time, or just serve it's purpose for the moment. Yeah I'll admit it's a neo geo and I think personally instead of giving me a handheld plus a station to dock it at to play on a regular tv. They should of just made a top notch quality home model and shelved the handheld idea because (guessing) majority of the neo geo community are not kids. Most adults I know do not care for handhelds all that much I mean they are cool, but I just wait till I get home to game on my tv like most.

Hell looking back into the 90's makes me sad lol I was paying about 71 cents a gallon of gas when I started driving and smokes cost me about $1.50 a pack of mavericks...

It hurts me how much this is true. I seriously doubt that teenage me would be even remotely surprised that I would be playing the exact same games almost 20 years or more later, because they're just that damn good. But If teenage me would look at things like "See that fighting game? All those unlockable characters? You can't cheat, or play to get them. You have to pay for them. Often individually!" and be pretty wounded! And obviously much more, but that's an old man rant for another time

Very agreed. I do still very much enjoy my NeoGeo X, but I actually bought it as a handheld first (I actually really love handhelds)! The TV dock was a bonus. Normally, if I'm playing on my TV, I'll plunk something in my AES, or CD, and away I go. But to have NeoGeo on the go was REALLY appealing to me. Whooping some KoF on the bus, or popping in a quick game of League Bowling while on break at work, not to mention when I end up traveling (which is semi regular for me) I loved everything about that Idea. I do still use it in the dock pretty regularly though, to play games I don't own already on one of my Neo systems, like Mutation Nation, or Last Resort. Or anything really, thanks to a modded SD card. If anything, it's helping me broaden my NeoGeo tastes, and get a feel for what games I play enough to expand my cartridge library with! Once I get a cart version, needless to say I don't play it on the X dock anymore. It's like moving from taped/recorded from the movie channel VHS versions to Blu-Ray collectors editions.

I was tempting to buy one, but then i watched some online reviews again and tossed that idea.

I can almost guarantee it will get cheaper. Neo Geo X limited is or will soon be a discontinued item so the price should fall like crazy until they are sold out.

I can't wait to get one. I know there are a lot of detractors, but I'm just plain excited. I don't know whether to get the GOLD bundle or wait in hopes of a NGX 2.0 that they might fix some of the physical issues. Would hate to miss the sale though....

Sounds like the general consensus of these is that they're not very good, huh? I was hoping to get one, but maybe I should wait for the price to collapse a little further.

Outside of the HDMI output looking terrible, what else is wrong with this thing?

It has a wide screen for no reason at the moment. Audio channels are flipped. All things considered its a pretty badass little machine.

I've got a feeling that the firmware update is going to fix a lot of the issues. I've been playing mine since early January and still love it.

I can definitely see the problem, then. What about as a handheld alone? Does it stand up fine in that regard, and flunk mostly as a console, or is it still kind of poor overall?

As a handheld its badass...no doubt. Tv output varies depending on tv and connection but it is relatively poor for now. Hoping that the firmware update fixes this.

Hmm maybe watch some youtube reviews and read forums here.
From what i can tell, screen is bad and to dark also 16:9 instead of 4:3, bad emulation, screen tearing, sound lags, slowdowns, thumstick seems to have issues some ppl needed to replace the unit after one or two weeks, TV and HDMI out is crap and then also sound and input lags.
Arcadestick is lower quality, dockingstation is also made very cheap, basicly a powered USB hub with some cable connectors.
From the games, only US Bios installed so no blood, gore and sexy content, most seem to run in AES mode ( only 4 credits ) with no save option.

As for the screen, I have no idea what that's all about. My handheld screen is bright, vibrant, with no viewing angle problems. Some games, I honestly don't mind and forget to reset the aspect ratio (League Bowling, Baseball Stars 2) But when it does, like everyone else I can simply hit 'L' and everything is right with the world. Should have been 4:3 to begin with, but I really don't see the huge problem when a simple button press can fix it. The TV output; Composite isn't bad, just set your TV to Cool, and turn up the brightness on the NGX itself! The HDMI is genuinely awful, though. Never had sound lag. I only experience screen tearing when using HDMI. It's got its problems, but as a handheld, I think it's awesome. As a TV console.. well, It lets me play games I don't already have in my NeoGeo collection, at least! (God I NEED to get an original version of Mutation Nation..)

My screen is great too on mine. I was sitting in my recliner infront of the big window with the sun beaming down behind me and I could see my screen great still. As for hooking up to my lcd. HDMI worked way better on my screen for whatever reason. With the av cables sound was really bad picture was really bad. I mean HDMI is not super but it was actually decent after changing it to 4:3 or whatever.

It's even cheaper

I wanted to let everyone know who have been waiting for prices to drop to get the NeoGeo X, like I was.

Not sure if posted anywhere else here, but In case you missed it, Amazon.com and Bestbuy.com both have the NeoGeo X Gold Limited Edition Version for only $129.99.

The Amazon page as of a few days ago was still in stock, however would appear it is now out of stock however is still accepting backorders (will charge/ship when available), but BestBuy is still in stock, and if you want an additional Arcade Stick, BestBuy has that for just $31.99!

I have just placed my order last night with BestBuy.com, I upgraded my shipping to Express Shipping and the total with Tax and upgraded shipping came out to $146.69, still cheaper than elsewhere including eBay Buy It Now and Stores for New In Box, Delivery says it should arrive this Friday or Saturday (in a couple days), so I am eagerly awaiting it!

If you're a penny pincher and live in a state where Amazon.com doesn't charge tax and willing to wait (who knows how long, if ever), Amazon.com may be the best deal out there at 129.99 & free shipping. But if you're like me and didn't want to pay 149.99 + Tax and Shipping (~$175) Bestbuy.com is currently the best deal out there, unless you're wanting to gamble on some Non-Buy It Now auctions on eBay and hope you don't get sniped last second or the price driven higher than buying it retail.

BestBuy.com NeoGeo X Gold $129.99 & Free Shipping

BestBuy.com NeoGeo X Arcade Stick $31.99 & Free Shipping

Amazon.com NeoGeo X $129.99 Backorder

Another thread a bit further down had some of this info, but having all the links in one spot here is nice, too! Good finds, though! Seriously, who could hate free shipping? :) I hope you enjoy it when it arrives!
