The longer I wait for this the more I am thinking in the back of my head "it isn't worth it". I am in the market for a new handheld and I thought this would be perfect for me (I am super into Puzzled right now and it is kicking my ass) but with the Archose Gamepad coming out soon (another shotty piece of hardware, I can really pick them) I am thinking I would get a lot more use out of that.

I just can't think of any reason for all of this secrecy. Surely a little over a month away from release they have some plans as to where this is going in the future. What games will be released, or if the handheld will be released separately, etc. I imagine more people would preorder if they announced a few more games...

I agree, unless they have no future plans.

I'm still trying to remain optimistic for this release. It's been nice to get some decent videos surfacing now, but none of them go into the depth I think most of us here want to see. I can't bring myself to order this unit until someone looks at this a bit closer, i.e. HDMI video and stick quality, other than glossing over it's specs and how great it may look. Also, I don't see myself ordering the current unit until more titles are announced. The 20 game lineup is OK, but It'd be a waste if great titles like TSS, MS3, NTM, and MOTW go ignored...

Yeah the previews/ "reviews" have been pretty light on substance, although nice to see something coming out. I'm honestly fine with the titles they're releasing, but would love to see more. It looks to be made fairly well just going by the videos, but seems like a waste of time to have the thing in your hands, and not mention anything about the overall quality; how it feels, etc...nothing more than promotion to get people excited. I wouldn't doubt someone here will review this thing soon. Just waiting...

I very much think the reason we haven't heard any concrete future plans about the X is that they have no idea how it will sell. They want to get it out there and gauge the level of interest before they start buying licenses and placing game cards in stores.

There are a couple things that I think they should have done differently.
1. They should let you copy your purchased games to the menu selection. It's seems weird to have 20 games on a menu, but then you have to switch memory cards to play the others.
I'm sure they could have added some basic copy protection or code entering to transfer the card to the internal memory (in the same way Rock Band lets you do this).

2. This...

It looks like you are about to torture the poor thing. Couldn't they make a single plug containing audio/video/power?
Micro-HDMI doesn't do power. They need the old school audio jack for the analog outputs (otherwise they'd have to do some D/A conversion in hardware, which would cost them more money, which would cost us more money). It looks like the ports are all just pass through style connections to the rear of the AES shell.

Yes, but it's a Catch 22. They want to gauge interest based on sales, but if they don't release a library of titles along with the NGX then the average Joe will think 20 games is all they get. Who wants to spend two hundred bucks on a handheld with a shady future? If they're smart, they will offer at least a handful of games at launch. I remember standing in line day one for the SNES and seeing only like three games at launch. There was F-Zero, Pilotwings and something else I can't remember. But the thing is, at least we (the consumer) knew that more games would follow. Tommo NEEDS to get on the ball here now if they want the NGX to succeed. We've seen it many times before when a new product comes to market with high expectations, but because of a lack of support it dies way too soon. That is why there's nearly fifty pages of posts about the NGX. We are desperate to find an ounce of truth to this new system because we've all been screwed one time or another. Tommo and SNKP cannot keep us in the dark this late in the game. If they continue to "gauge" peoples' interest, then they will have buried the NGX even before it is released. F**k that.

Every one of you know that you want this fucking thing.

I love reading how everyone is psyching themselves out of it, or justifying their decision to stay away from it. :)

Shame on you... there were five games. Super Mario World/F-Zero/Pilotwings/Gradius III/SimCity.

 You wouldn't make it long in the industry. It's a general assumption that when a new console comes out, they're going to put games out for it. Look at it from the developers perspective...

Would you REALLY wanna buy licensing rights to half the library from the get-go only to find you sold less than 25% expected sales numbers for the system or less? No, you wouldn't.

They're going to look at pre-order numbers and how many units are sold at launch and that entire first week to gague what/how many licenses they'll buy. The better it does, the bigger the risk they're going to take. By being negative on it, you only hurt it's chances more. If you're remotely interested, take the chance and buy it.

If it does bad or flops, sell it down the road.

It is a bit mysterious that they haven't announced any other games, only that they are sure to come. A lot of you guys think that it is because they want to see how many units they sell before they decide to buy licenses. I think, while that might be true, it seems quite odd in a few ways. For one, if they were to announce more games, obviously more people would be willing to take the plunge. With the 20 games included, it's just a nicely made, expensive version of the same things that Sega and Atari have packaged together for plug and play in the past. Also, by having other games at launch, they would also have a good idea of the kind of software per system they are selling as well, to gauge future releases by.

I hope this thing is as good as it looks, and functions effectively the same as any other neo hardware. I also hope that the community supports if it is indeed quality. Were the backbone of what they are betting on anyway. If we don't buy it, not too many outsiders will.

I hope these games run smooth, they have real displayable packaging, we get really good/rarer releases. Ninja Masters is a good start.

I mean, who would have believed we were getting new SNK hardware in 2012?! That's nuts.

I assume you don't understand how an option/license agreement works. Tommo/Blaze doesn't have to actually buy licenses to the new games in order to announce them. All they have to do is negotiate an option with SNK for a small percentage of the actual license fee up front and then pay the full purchase price upon some set date or event in order to have the rights to develop and release additional SNK titles for the system. If that future date or event comes along and Tommo and Blaze realize the product has flopped, all they lost is the option payment.

You guys continue to give Tommo and Blaze too much credit and seem to put too much faith in the quality and functionality of this system. Until I see some reviews over a period of weeks that prove to me that this thing is well built and plays well, I'm not going to spend a penny on it. Anyone who does otherwise is just a complete moron. Finally, please stop referring to this as SNK hardware. It's not. It's a Tommo/Blaze piece of hardware under license from SNK.

i agree 100%.
many people is afraid to spend a lot of money for only 20 games. if people not see that will be more games and only they say "promises" then people will not buy this console till see that future games.
the problem is if snk and tommy not see very good sales, this console will die in few days.

i see another big problem. this portable will release near WII U. sony and microsoft will reduce the price of their console sure and in america halo 4 is like a GOD.
is bad date to release this portable. maybe if they released about summer we probably could see a real good sales of this system.
