Always been curious about Over Top, but never played it.
Is it worth grabbing?
(it's a motorsport game, so it definitely counts)

Super dodgeball, neo turfmasters, and bbs2. In that order. Not really a fan of super sidekicks or football frenzy.

I feel like I am in the minority with liking 2020 over Baseball Stars 2, but I do like both a lot. As well as League Bowling and Neo Turf Masters.

I like them all, even Power Spikes II and I also like 3 Count Bout (I wish I could get better at it though) but my favorites are...

Neo Turf Masters
Street Hoop US
Neo Cup '98
Neo Drift Out
Baseball Stars 2
Wind Jammers
Super Dodge Ball
League of Bowling

Well, you didn't leave us much to add, now did you? ;).

Anyway, the DECO catalogue with DD & FPD is excellent, of course. I also like Thrash Rally, you can really enjoy to play it for records and that alone is stunning, Super Dodge Ball can be fun, too, if you have a good human opponent to play against... then there is my favorite guilty pleasure within the sports genre, which is Stakes Winner, both of them actually.

And yeah, ElectricGrave is right on, a good tennis game would have been ace... but what are the good pre-Power Smash & post-Pong arcade tennis games out there in the wild? Can't possibly be that many...

Battle Flipshot and Bang Bead could be taken as Pong style games? Both great IMHO but I feel Battle Flipshot is the better of the 2.

I've owned expensive homecarts, I've owned negligible homecarts. And I always find myself going back to NAM-1975 when I want to play my NEO.

Tennis on the Neo...

Yeah, there is no shortage of Pong-style games on the Neo, but they hardly make up for an actual tennis game... let's look deeper into this and play the 'what if...' game.

What if the Neo got a tennis game, what would it look like? There are some arcade examples b.c. Smash Tennis, they are scarce though:

1. Pro Tennis (1982) by DECO is an early example. Hardly NG material... it's also called World Tennis.

2. Nintendo VS. Tennis (1984) is to mention, although not a true arcade game, it was rather a commercial for the Famicom in the arcades. Just research on the Nintendo VS. System.

3. Pro Tennis: World Court (1988) is an effort from NAMCO to boost the PC-Engine. Still, it was released in the arcades first., let's make it count then.

4. Hot Shots Tennis (1990) from the unknown Strata but hey, it's TATE ;).

5. Super World Court (1992) is, nomen est omen, the sequel to Nr. 3. Now this could have been easily SNKs launch tennis title. Just imagine G-Manto as a referee and have a ball... an optic yellow one ;).

6. Ultimate Tennis (1993) from Art&Magic is a great game, but technically not possible to achieve on NG. Check out the linked JNX vid.

7. Reality Tennis (1993) from TCH is an oddball version of Nr. 6. Looks trashy with it's digi-sprites and low fps, could be re-done for the Neo though and then with nicely drawn sprites instead.

8. Capcom Sports Club: Smash Stars Cap's Tennis (1997) is part of three comical sports games, not unlike Wonder 3, I guess. Done on CPS2 hardware, it looks rather like a Dunk Dream rip. Still, it shows that DECO could have made a great tennis game like this for SNK. Another great JNX video is linked. Thanks James!!!

And that's all folks... all I could find that is. It clearly shows though, that there were possibilities to make a tennis game on the Neo-Geo happen. Unfortunately it never actually did, not even as a proto. So let's not try to seek for a why, for this riddle is not to be solved anyway.

I really enjoyed Neo Turf Masters out of all the sports titles for NEO GEO. WindJammers is a unique game with plenty of jam-packed fun! Notables are Super Sidekicks 1, Baseball Stars 2, Football Frenzy, and 2020 Baseball. I wish they made Tecmo Bowl! That would have been sweet. :buttrock:

A 2D game version of Virtua Tennis would be good, also a 2D version of Beach Voleyball with hot chicks would be cool. Neo Summer Games...new homebrew development!

When you get through playing NGPC Tennis I'm sure you'll feel very different about it.

News flash: It's not 1990 anymore and not everything stands the test of time.

Ya TPG hasnt aged well..its the only neo geo game i have that kind of makes me cringe when i play it.

Best sports games for me are 2020 baseball , soccer brawl, baseball stars and neo turf masters. Super sidekicks looks cool but i havent played it yet.
