Neo Geo CD Save Battery

As you may have seen I've just picked up a top loader Neo Geo CD, all seems to be working well, but one thing I can't figure out is if the save battery is still working. I have used the console for a good few hours so if it does still hold a charge it should be working now. How can I test it? Can anyone suggest a game that utilises saves that are easy/quick to store, eg not a high score.

Neoturf masters... goto the entry menu and enter your name into one of the slots. It will be saved right away.

Great thanks, will try later. BTW does anybody know of a good guide for replacing the battery assuming it is dead? Surprisingly I can't find one. It looks like these things use a VG2430 battery which is now obsolete, so wondering if I can replace it with a 3V 2032 like most other things use these days (rechargeable of course.)

Well that's a nice surprise, it still works! I can't imagine a 20 year old battery would still be recharging, so it must have been replaced at some point. One less repair job

Both mine are still alive, maybe they had high quality batts I dunno but all my other console batts have been replaced with rechargeable 2032's bar the NGCD ones.

Yeah my Saturn only lasts a couple of years between 2032s with light use, not cheap batteries either.
