The fact that they publicly announced this blows my mind at the arrogance of these people - "yeah, we've decided to pack in copyright theft of SNK stuff because we can no longer compete with the real deal."

Guess they'll have to find something else to bootleg. Atari Jaguar perhaps...

I’m in for an Ultimate edition, and a standard edition + memory card from before I went crazy and ordered the ultimate.

The fact that the carts & accessories are backward compatible gives me a bit of reassurance it will be a decent product. If it was that easy to cut corners with a 1 chip on the carts you would be seeing them on Ali - all I see is conversions / bootlegs…. & adapted chips on the 161-in-1 etc… is any other way possible?

Someone pointed out in the promo video the cart only has 1 board, but it could just be rendering or bad camera angle.

I am about to order one as well, always regretted selling my AES and games.

One thing I am a bit concerned about is input lag. I read a comment here that the Plaion version of the Atari 2600 has significant lag. I can’t find much further info on this. Any insights here ?

Would be great if we could get new AES console Pink travel bags, that’s the one accessory that should be easy to make today. Original ones are either beat up or way too pricey. Also the AES + is the perfect throw it in a bag to use at your hotel on a weekend trip to annoy the wife and kids or take to a friends house without worry of breaking your original machine that is too precious.

The only thing I have to say about this new system or old system as I should really call it is the fact being that the hardware and whatnot should be nowhere as expensive as it was back in the 90s. I kind of hope that wants this thing comes out and if it does well the market will crash a bit I always felt that collecting AES games in this day and age was just not worth it.

There will be no crash. If anything the prices of the original carts and equipment will increase as this is creating more awareness. Vinyl is a good example, they keep re releasing Dark side of the moon over and over and over but clean pressings from the 70's keep going up and up.

I believe the original carts will maintain value. The Plaion re-issues will just become a secondary tier for people unable or unwilling to buy the originals. To be clear - that's me. I can't justify the original stuff for myself.

One thing’s for sure this is definitely going to push up the price of stuff like SS2, FFS, AOF2 etc. Great games that have remained somewhat low cost (at least for the Japanese versions)

It all comes down to who makes this stuff and where it can be sourced from. Do you know any place that currently makes most of the parts that go into a Neo Geo? As an example, EV car batteries have dropped 93% in price in the past 15 years, both because of improvements in technology, and as new factories come online that can meet the demand. It's the same thing at the heard of the current ram shortage, and short supply when new consoles are launched. So yeah, it's old technology that would be cheaper now if anyone still made most of it.

I think if the Plaion preorder numbers are beyond expectations, you can bet they're knocking on doors for licensing.

Nothing new needs to be made. All licensing deals.

We could see some crazy shit soon. Gonna be fun to watch.

That was me. I can only give anecdotal evidence as I don't know any exact numbers on the amount of lag.

Kaboom is a super fast Atari 2600 game that uses the analog paddle controllers. On a real 2600 on a CRT, I can regularly get close to 3000 points. On the 2600+ through HDMI on an LCD TV, I top out at 700-900 points. The slight lag makes the lightning fast movement extremely difficult to correctly follow.

On the website for the AES+, it says:

• Low-latency HDMI output

• Original AV output for CRT enthusiasts

It could be that they received complaints about lag and are aware of it this time. But it could also be that your TV introduces some lag through HDMI that's out of Plaion's control. I'm not enough of an expert on this.
