Ideally it would have a direct video option over HDMI, but I have big doubts on that.

Meanwhile I caved in and placed a preorder on Amazon.de for a normal system and a bunch of games - just in case this thing sells out (and it is easy to cancel). For some reason (probably batteries), Amazon will not ship the wireless controllers to me, will have to find another place where to source those (and Plaion don't ship to my country). Let me know if you have an idea where I can get them from in the EU, cheers.

Funny how Amazon have no problem shipping PS5 controllers to me, but if I try to buy a NeoGeo stick they go berserk over batteries.

I think what makes the new AES preposition attractive is the price and collectability aspect of it. I can play any Neo Geo game perfectly on MiSTer, I certainly do not need any Neo Geo System or games. On the otherhand this is a chance to own something which I really wished I had back in the day but came at a prohibitive price, and having some disposable income (I am by not any means rich), I can jump in. I see myself buying every game they bring out, but it stops there - I am not going to go on eBay to purchase titles which have not been re-published by Plaion, knowing that eventually that game might after all be released. And anyway its more about collecting "new" AES games for me.

Obviously other people may have other ways on how to do things, but for my part I am not going to be driving prices of cheap carts up

I do wonder though if there will be many people who will buy the new AES carts but would prefer to play them on an original AES? That would push the price of the system upwards for sure.

This is the arcade1up version of the AES. People who always wanted an original will buy it, but it's not exactly the real thing. Hopefully it will satisfy most.

I wonder which version of Samurai Shodown V Special is included in the Ultimate Edition- is it the earlier release of it, with the violent fatalities?

I would assume Shock Troopers is the normal version of it, with three team characters sharing one life bar.

That's a fair point. I was just saying like how arcade1ups are for wannabe's who don't own a real cab, that's what the AES+ is doing for those who say "I always wanted one" (but for some reason never got one in the used market like the rest of us... hmmm...).

I agree there are psychological similarities.

We'll have to see if AES+ can deliver on the promise of being the return of the real thing, as opposed to the poor quality Arcade1Up delivered, resulting in going out of business.

A lot of these johnny-come-lately's will disappear into the woodwork again about 3 months after this thing comes out. But I welcome all the new attention on Neo Geo (and hopefully Youtube viewers ) so hopefully some stick around.

They may not have taken the financial plunge like many of us did, but even though a used system was about $300 not long ago, I get it that it was tough to afford many games beyond the sub-$100 early Samurai Shodown, Fatal Fury and AOF games. Can't expect everyone to collect MVS either.

I always wanted an arcade cabinet but an Arcade1Up doesn’t cut it, at least for me. I don’t think it’s the same comparison. I did own tons of MVS a couple of decades ago but eventually interest waned out and when I figured that gaming on MiSter FPGA provides the same gameplay experience I sold everything. I wish I could collect my favorite titles on AES and obviously I never afforded it. This new machine provides the opportunity. That’s all.

True but I think the “cheap” games is what is making it work for Plaion. Analogue don’t publish/produce games.

This is making me worried that the old converters won't work for some reason., since its coded by the core, that would mean he would need to reconfigure some timings and possibly slightly slim down the pcbs so its plug and play.
