I find it so weird some people are calling these “official reproductions.” In my mind this is no different then when a book/music/movie is a reissued/reprinted. I don’t think any of those media hobbies dismiss subsequent print runs as “reproductions.”

Anyway I’m super excited about this, and do love they are starting with the big tymer carts. I’m not sure why other gaming companies are not doing this, I hope it really successful.
You're correct, but the insides will be nothing like an original cart. They won't pass the authentication that people do now. And you know how these goobs check everything, including the insert and manual print quality. The fact that they will be so different from the originals, makes the term "official reproductions" apt to me.

can't wait for the first ebay'er to buy one of these Metal Slug carts and sell them at the OG price.
i'm waiting to see the stacking choices Kenny makes when he takes the glamour shots for his eBay posts.

really id be way more worried about them fucking up the HDMI out with latency. I dont expect it but we've been spoiled with FPGA and HDMI being the gold standard so it has a high bar to at least match
They did mention "low latency HDMI" multiple times in all of the press material they released today, so at the very least they are cognizant of that being a concern for potential buyers

Metal Slug - looks genuine but supposed to be an AES+

The soldering looks decent overall.

Can you post pics then repost pics again if you don't get the responses you're looking for? I think they're selling AES- not AES+ for these.

I don't know why anyone would think that modern official repro's would have any negative impact at all on the collector's market for the OG carts. If anything, it's just going to increase interest.
If anything the carts that are re-released would have at least 50% or so value compared to the originals, depending on which title gets released. But for sure, there will be a resurgence in flash carts from the usuals and maybe a new kind. From what I've seen, SNK only does a dozen waves of titles. So there is a chance this gets about 10 waves worth of games, so not every title will be released as a + version. Hence, probably why they allowed the old carts to be played. Might be even less. I don't see SNK dropping carts for this after 3 years. Might be less pending on the chip boom that is going on.

Ok, I get where you're coming from, but why would they manufacturer the carts exactly the same way they did back in 1990? Even if there had been continuity from Playmore right through to today, do you honestly think that Metal Slug 15 would be manufactured the same way as Metal Slug 1 was back in 1996?

That wouldn't make sense.

Obviously the quality is up for debate because no one has objectively seen one of these things up close and personal, however, if this is endorsed by SNK Japan, then these are either re-prints or re-issues.

When Paramount or whoever, re-release a film on the latest blu ray disc, over an earlier itineration, they don't call it a "reproduction".

A new cheaper home cart console comes out and still people want mvs convertor and flash cart compatibility
Some of us aren't made of money to spend $90 on a single game we already have in some other format, i.e. MVS or SD carts. That and we're only getting 10 games at first, so why not use a flash cart so we can play the whole game library right off the bat?

hey I know this name haha

yeah its just got to be sub frame latency

MiSTer is sub 1 frame for HDMI so that is the standard. Above a frame and people wont be happy
